We will have to agree to disagree Horse, If Mac can not go the distance with a boxer of Tony's calibre (remember he is still coming up through the ranks) then he has no place left in the sport. If you want to see Maccarinelli knocked out again, this fight makes sense. If you want to see him rebuild and have some success, it does not.taffytoon wrote:By the time of the fight he will be a lot heavier than the weighin, as will Tony. But truth is this fight answers a hell of a lot of questions if it happens. Remember not all that long ago he was world champion, Commonwealth is a good stepping stone for bigger fights.
When a fighter is coming back from a number of heavy knockout losses, putting them in with a massive puncher is idiotic.
Enzo Maccarinelli where does he go?

Tony is a massive puncher and a World class prospect. Losing to him doesn't mean a fighter has nothing left. Although, if Maccarinelli did fight Bellew he could, quite possibly, have whatever he did have left punched out of him.taffytoon wrote:We will have to agree to disagree Horse, If Mac can not go the distance with a boxer of Tony's calibre (remember he is still coming up through the ranks) then he has no place left in the sport.
Do you favour Maccarinelli against Bellew?taffytoon wrote:Your theory sounds like Frank Balony method of protecting his fighters
Re: Enzo Maccarinelli where does he go?
Losing to Bellew at this stage means Enzo doesn't have anything left beyond the domestic level. Bellew is a prospect who has not beaten any good opponents yet. Losing to him means game over for a former world champ like Enzo. Personally I think he should call it a day now, because he is completely shot and only going to get knocked out again soon.Horse wrote:Tony is a massive puncher and a World class prospect. You don't think that fighting a big puncher this soon after being stopped those three times is a bad idea then?crusader wrote:Losing to Bellew at this stage means Enzo doesn't have anything left beyond the domestic level. Am I alone in thinking this would be kamikaze matchmaking?

Should fight Norton!

I agree with you. I think Enzo is done and gets stopped by Bellew at LHW. It would be a great fight for Bellew though. Looks nice having a former world champ on your record, even if they no longer fight at that level.
Re: Enzo Maccarinelli where does he go?
Go after a lonsdale belt then 1 last world tilt but not suprised to see him get ko'd before he gets there..
Re: Enzo Maccarinelli where does he go?
He needs a slow rehabilitation, don't think jumping back in at a high level will do him any good at all. Fight a slightly better opponent each time out, until he's gotten a bit of his swagger back. It's been a real sh*t sandwich for Enzo since the Haye fight. He needs to get himself right physically and mentally and then see where he's at.
I'd like to see him up at heavy, at least he'll be making better money if/when the wheels come off again. A drop to light-heavy would be asking for trouble imo.

Re: Enzo Maccarinelli where does he go?
Cruiserweight is not exactly brimming with talent domestically, so I think Enzo could rule the roost domestically if he put his mind too it. There will not be much money in it though I wouldn`t have thought.
Maybe one last push to get the European belt and then try and set up a fight with Marco Huck. At least he`d go out with a bang.

Re: Enzo Maccarinelli where does he go?
Enzo's just a clubfighter - his belt was a paper one and the guys he fought - a fat 40 year old Dominguez, Mark Hobson, Bobby Gunn, Mohammed Azz.... deplorable. These are not world title quality fights. Wayne Braithewaite was the only good name, until you realise he was coming off a kayo loss & an 18 month retirement.
David Haye, Ola Afolabi and Lebedev are his world class opponents and they all destroyed him. Without Frankie W doing the usual paper title/soft opponents routine for him his limitations have become painfully clear.

Re: Enzo Maccarinelli where does he go?
I agree with the above, if Enzo wins then 1 it means he still has something left to give. 2 No disgrace to Bellew to lose to a former world champion and will continue to build his career. 3 If Bellew does win what a name to have on the CV.crusader wrote:Losing to Bellew at this stage means Enzo doesn't have anything left beyond the domestic level. Bellew looks like he is a World class puncher. Why would Maccarinelli want to move down a weight division to fight a guy like that at domestic level?
For a World title? Maybe. For the Commonwealth title? No.
at the end of the day enzo might not have the best chin in the world but nether did a lot of fighters that made good money out of boxing , if enzo did fight bellew he would stop him inside 5 rounds as bellew has not got the brain to be a top class fighter , (it showed in tha am's)
