Jason Booth World title shot?

Post by stujones »

I've just noticed British and Commonwealth Super Bantamweight champion is ranked #1 by the WBO at Bantamweight (I believe this is their most up to date rankings). Fernando Montiel, who lets be honest will be way too good, is the current WBO champion - but I believe he is vacating the title to challenge for the WBC belt. We do have an interim champion in Eric Morel, again one would think will be too strong, but less daunting than Montiel.

Could Jason Booth be on the way to a surprising shot at a world title in the near future?

Would love to see him fight for a world title. He has been one of my favourite boxers over the past couple of years. I love watching him fight.

I dont think it would be that much of a surprise though to be honest.

I cant see this fight going ahead anyway because they are such good pals. I think Maloney wants Munroe to win the eliminator, fight for a world title and that means he will vacate the European and give Booth a chance against probably Kiko Martinez coz he always gets a chance.

Is he really at that level, though?

As others have already said, he would probably need a "soft touch" intrim title.

Or, if he's up for it, a pay-day against one of the current champions. (But as European Champ, I'd guess Monroe would be offered first crack.)

Montiel isn't vacating he's keeping the title. If he beats Hasegawa he'll have both titles. If Hasegawa wins then he'll keep the WBC but wont take the WBO crown as it's not recognised. Presumably if Montiel loses Morel will be made full champion as he's currently the Interim champion.

I wonder why Booth is rated on the World scene at Bantamweight when he campaign's at Super Bantamweight.

Good luck to Booth would be good to see him get a title shot. On a side note not sure Morel could travel to Britain as he's been to prison and that has prevented him fighting abroad before, i think that prevented him fighting Hasegawa late last year.
