Story in today's Sun Herald about a possible fight between Kali Meehan and Ruslan Chagaev as a WBA elination fight.
Got a bit worried about the veracity of the story when the journos referred to the 185cm, 102kg Uzbeki Chagaev as a "Russian giant."
Oh dear....

They breed 'em big over there. Good to see Meehan back in the fray.

Meehan is 11 cm taller than Chagaev. It would be the first time a giant had to look up to his opponent.

Yeah so it'll be funny when they describe Meehan as a giant killer, I wonder if they are dubbing him Kali 'David' Meehan to promote the fight?

As each day goes by I get more and more worried about Meehan's inactivity...

Something a hard head detective told me once after a bloke was assaulted and robbed while sitting in a water closet in a public toilet by a bloke he described as six feet tall.
"When you are sitting in the shithouse and a bloke smashes his way in and attacks you he is always six feet tall."

Is this fight still only "possible"? It's been talked about for ages.

From one of the internet sites.....
The purse bid of the WBA for the heavyweight eliminator fight between Ruslan Chagaev and Kali Meehan had been cancelled on short notice. Universum Box- Promotion and Meehan Promoter Don King have reached an agreement that Universum will stage the fight. Universum vice Dietmar Poszwa: “In a short time the date and the venue will be confirmed. I’m very happy for Ruslan that he will get this chance to become world champion after the defeat against Wladimir Klitschko. After a victorious fight against Meehan he will be facing the reigning WBA champ David Haye.”

Agreed. Meehan may be old as hell and, dare I say it, overrated (by the WBA), but I make him a far more interesting addition to the title picture than Chagaev.

put it this way valuev did everything possible to prevent him having to face meehan, but he was willing to face chagaev.

I very much doubt that was because Valuev was more scared of Meehan than Chagaev - just that it was seen as a higher risk/lower reward scenario. Unfortunately Meehan isn't box office in most of the world, while at least Chagaev is a big name in Germany and Eastern Europe.

Not if Kali lands one of his overhand rights on Ruslan's temple.
