Should David Price be put on the fast track?
Should David Price be put on the fast track?
Does anybody feel David Price should be put on the fast track towards British title level?
I can understand Maloney saying they have plenty of time with David as he is only 26 but I would like to see him mixing it with Fury/McDermott/Chisora sooner rather than later. To be honest his opponents haven't been much kop and as has been said he isn't learning anything from them. He looked like he was against a cruiser on friday. I'd just like to see bigger steps forward being made towards the fighters I have mentioned. I look forward to price fighting but everytime I feel disappointed. I know he can only fight who is put in front of him but I would like to see some progress and eagerness in his matchmaking. After the Setanta debacle I thought they might want to make up for lost time. Maybe i'm just being impatient but Fury who is only 21 fought McDermott in only his 8th fight, I can't see Price being matched like that in 3 fights time the way it is going and he in my opinion he has so much more ability than Fury. What do you think?

Since turning pro we haven't seen any real improvement so far.
Been a tad disappointed by his progress. Still, he does have a bit of time on his side.

Re: Should David Price be put on the fast track?
he shouldnt be moved as fast as someone like groves but he needs to be fighting tougher opposition
Re: Should David Price be put on the fast track?
Why move him up he has plenty of time, look at bruno, lewis ect who they boxed,I think Maloney is bringing his lads on ok at this stage,And groves and co are been rushed

Re: Should David Price be put on the fast track?
he should be in learning fights last 2 fights were a joke

I think Price was equally embarrassed by them.Spud wrote:Maloney is completely correct in the way he is handling David Price - nowt more to say really!!!
I'd say he's a difficult guy to match at this stage cos anyone who's anyone who's not that good will be demolished because of his power.
Re: Should David Price be put on the fast track?
"Rubbish" Frank Baloney has given David Absolute laughable opponents in his last 2 fights. Please tell me what he has learnt from around 100 seconds of ring time?Spud wrote:Maloney is completely correct in the way he is handling David Price - nowt more to say really!!!
Re: Should David Price be put on the fast track?
I appreciate Price must be hard to match but his opponents have been very poor under Maloney. On his debut under Haymaker Ingleby was brought in and on paper is a decent match for your debut!! But since he has been fightin LHW's and are cannon fodder really.
On fri on the Leigh bill, Ferguson was there (looked shocking in a very poor performance) in a 4 rounder against a guy who was even smaller than Price's opponent. . . .. Would it have not been more beneficial to put Price in with Ferguson????

Re: Should David Price be put on the fast track?
When you consider that Fury went in with a 21-3 fighter with an excellent knockout ratio (against nobodies admittedly) in only his 2nd fight and Chisora fought the 7-0 Sam Sexton in only his 5th fight, it's clear that there is a big difference in the matchmaking of them and Price. Surely there is something more to be said?Spud wrote:Maloney is completely correct in the way he is handling David Price - nowt more to say really!!!

He definitely needs a stiffer test. He is a good fighter and the heavyweight scene in general is quite poor. Feeding him scrubs will achieve nothing except maybe making him go stale.

Of course David Price needs a stiffer test - but to question Mr Maloney who has guided Lennox Lewis to the World Heavyweight title and is well versed in the games and politics of the sport is foolhardy to say the very least.
Maloney will know himself that the opponents need to be taken up a notch or 2 - but lets face it what Price stated was completely correct abou many of our star boxers on the way - in fact I would state practically every single one of them - sparring is harder than some of the so called learning fights - nothing is different to David Prices career than any other boxer trying to make his way to the top.

I think if you have been a world class amateur then it is completely pointless fighting stiffs half your size.
Surely the benefits of winning a medal at the olympics is that you can negotiate a better pro contract than most and that you get fast tracked a little as a pro?
Clearly not

David Ingelby was a decent first opponent, but it's not really been competative since then.
Re: Should David Price be put on the fast track?
Price is a class operater, dont think theres a queue waiting to Fight Him.
Re: Should David Price be put on the fast track?
David Price is still unproven at even domestic level for me. I dont think he posesses the skills or the potential to even get to european level at this moment in time. One boxer who I dont rate at all sorry to say!!!
edit: ooooh schit sorry I thought of bradley price there,
sorry... yeah david price is good and imo should be fast tracked, especially the way the heavyweight scene is today... you could be fighting the same class of fighter at domestic level as you could at world level. plus, hes a scouser so he has my full support
