Echols v Brewer

I just watched this fight, and I gotta say, something stank there. How the fornicate he let Echols out of round 1 is beyond me, the guy's eyes were as glassy as hell and he was getting punched all over the ring.

Then Brewer doesn't even go down, falls into the ropes, get a count, when action resumes, takes 3 shots on the ropes and the referee jumps in and stops it.

Poor old Brewer, gets shafted in Germany against Ottke, and then gets shafted again and on home turf too!

Man, Brewer must have screwed some commisioners wife or something.

yes, Kilburn lent me the tape of this fight (which i still havent returned, sorry) and i have to agree he was very unlucky......

It wouldn't have been so bad had the ref been consistent. I mean ok, Brewer was stubling around at the end of the 3rd round after the ref stopped it, but for fucks sake, Echols looked well and truly out of it.

The referee's explanation was fornicating stupid as well. It amounted to 'I let Echols go on, because he kept going down.'

Errr, so, if you got down from getting punched in the head, then as long as you get up you can continue, but if you're with it enough to stay on your feet and cover up, then you get stopped.

What a tool.

It was a rank decision, very much like the one last week between Corley-Cotto. Brewer was almost always fun to watch! One of the earliest fights of his that I recall watching was his first round TKO loss to Lonnie Beasley. Brewer jumped on his opponent right at the beginning, but Beasley, a relatively weak puncher, nailed Brewer with a perfect unppercut and although Brewer beat the count, he was in bad shape!

I think it was worse that the Cotto decision.

What I don't get though, the fight was in BREWER'S hometown! I think the ref must have had a rush of blood.

I forgot, it was in Brewer's back yard and if I'm not mistaken, I think it was at the Blue Horizon, where Brewer fought a lot! I've got the fight somewhere on VHS, but do to DVD I haven't had a VCR in a couple of years! I need to get a new one because I have thousands of fights on VHS! Do you know if they make a VCR that you can record VHS onto a DVD?

There must be one somewhere. However, I'm sure you can buy a DVD recorder and link it to a VCR, or a converter that allows you to do it on a PC.

It was at the Mohegan Sun....

I f'd up, I was looking at the location of the Beasley fight which was in Philly. It seems that Micael Ortega has been a decent ref over the last couple of years, but I could be incorrect about that also, it just seems like his name has been pretty familiar, he may be one of the house refs at Uncasville which would be why it would be familiar.

Thanks for the info about the DVD! I just looked through an old notebook that I had some of my fights listed in and there were a lot that I had forgotten completely about! I definately need to get on the ball and start transfering them all to DVD. I've got around 400, or 500 tapes that I don't even have the fights listed on so it's hard to tell what all I really do have. I'd would certainly help me to trade for a lot of fights that I don't have.
