Wharton wasn't in the league of Thornton or Rocchigiani, though Eubank looked just as good that night - what with Wharton leaving his face out to be hit.

Re: Eubank's best display?
How the feck wasnt Henry in that league?Undefeated British,Commonwealth and European champs dont come about every day.He went on to spark Galvano,Storey and Nardiello FFS.I know your a big Eubank fan,so just give him credit for boxing superb that night. From Chris's own words "the only reason i boxed three minutes of every round, was because he made me"coghaugen11 wrote:Wharton wasn't in the league of Thornton or Rocchigiani, though Eubank looked just as good that night - what with Wharton leaving his face out to be hit.
He was brilliant that night, but knew, trying to steal a fight off Henry in the north of England was a complete waste of time.As for leading with his face, tell that to Ray Close, who Henry dispatched in a minute, and, for the purists on here,Sven Ottke, who Henry dropped twice in the unpaid code, and they had to pick him up to raise his arm!You dont get to that level without ability, mate.Sorry for the rant, but he's a pal of mine, and certainly wouldnt thank me for fighting his battles on here for him
P.S,what league was he in?

Re: Eubank's best display?
Didn't know about the Wharton-Ottke amateur match, interesting.
Henry was in the league just below Tony (RIP) and Graciano. That's not taking anything away from Henry, who I think would've been (say) Calzaghe's toughest opponent by a country mile if he came along five or 10 years later. It's more a case of upping Tony and Graciano, who were both very high-level operators. Look at the fits Tony gave Toney and Graciano gave Michalczewski. Look at the textbook performance against Sosa from Tony, and one-round knockout of Hamsho from Graciano.

I didnt know about the Ottke bout for years, either! When he told me the story,i said i was suprised, and he just said if you have a look at my medical card, you will be suprised who i boxed. He never even mentioned it when Sven was at his peakcoghaugen11 wrote:Didn't know about the Wharton-Ottke amateur match, interesting.

If that fight would have been held a year earlier - Eubank would have smashed Collins.Deno1986 wrote:We have a winnerfeargalocuinneagain wrote:He's two displays against S CollinsD
Though I did think Ray Close won the first fight vs Eubank.

Re: Eubank's best display?
he boxed well against Collins the 1st time..! i thought he won the fight too.. nd when you consider there was a KD on Collins he got away with in R2 when ref thought it was balance (it wasnt) nd the sloppy KD he scored on Eubank in R8 was a balance thing on Eubanks part and that Eubank held off to with the KD he scored in R10 it just seems Collins got lucky that night
Re: Eubank's best display?
Chris hated southpaws, and when we was in the changing room, he was asking what I knew about his opponent, I said I know nothing, he then said, I hope he aint a southpaw, I hate southpaws!!,J wrote:explain what was funny about it then......cos my funny bone aint been tickled
and when the bell when, within the 1st 20 secs, he sidestepped to his corner and said while pointing 'Southpaw'!!!!

Why Eubank hated southpaws: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NRk83wzHeqE
Another one like that was against a guy called Greg George who turned out to be a tall muscular cruiserweight-looking guy and Eubank says he had never even fought a guy as tall as he was before at that point. He nearly lost that fight actually, was down and struggling. You could see his talent but George was just too big and he didn't know how to deal with it, fight taken on a few hours notice.
'There is a system for getting on in boxing: You stay away from southpaws, anyone over 6ft or an unbeaten record.'
His next fight was against Gary Stretch, which contradicted it completely. Also, Rocchigiani was all three of those factors!

I wonder how Mike got to watch Eubank-Wharton then, considering it was on Sky?
Benn-Wharton was on Showtime so he could've watched that in nick.

He did ask Tyson for advise before he fought Gary Stretch, and Tyson told him to work against the southpaw style with a left hook.

Re: Eubank's best display?
No,mate, sorry,i am pissed and watching the boxing,What i meant was,Mike doesnt do signitures for ANYONE.Onece he knew it was the same Henry who shared the ring with Chris, and had been serenadae with "there's only only one, etc" which outshouted him,he signed it.He was right as rain once he knew the scorecoghaugen11 wrote:He did ask Tyson for advise before he fought Gary Stretch, and Tyson told him to work against the southpaw style with a left hook.
