My father and I attended that card, and I've still got the program in a box somewhere. The week before I attended an amatuer card in Elyria where Ali and Wepner appeared to help publicize the fight. I didn't get a chance to meet either one, but as I was watching the two of them in the ring, I looked to my right and noticed Angelo standing right next to me. I don't recall exactly what we spoke about, but we talked for a few minutes. He seemed like a pretty decent guy.

Amazing that Liston could not actually KO Wepner though he had clearly beaten him to a pulp, and Ali actually DOES Ko him due to how totaly drained he was at the end of 15. So how does Bugner put him away in three?

Riddles like this make boxing the best sport in history.

I guess Harry Gibbs couldn't handle the sight of blood in Wepner-Bugner as well as Barney Felix, the referee in Liston-Wepner. Both fights were stopped on cuts to Wepner.

Is KO a word?

Anywho....

So who here thinks that if the ref had not stopped the fight, that Wepner was gonna stage a comeback vs Ali? I think the only place he was headin' was back to the canvas. Now Wepner himself says Liston destroyed him, but in that fight it looked to me that he might have had a chance of ending up very pulped, but on his feet.

Hi Anton, thanks for the great laugh last week when you found that picture of Kirkland Laing and thought it was Rocky Berg. You really are qualified to comment on boxers of the past. Have a nice day. :D

A knockdown is not a KO.

As if that needs to be said.

An old Liston stopped Wepner in 9 rounds. (ref stopped it at the end of the 9th round)

Ali stopped Wepner in 15 rounds.

Duane Bobick stopped Wepner in 9 rounds.

Jerry Tomasetti stopped Wepner in 5 rounds.

Buster Mathis stopped Wepner in 3 rounds.

George Foreman stopped Wepner in 3 rounds.

Jerry Judge stopped Wepner in 5 rounds.

Joe Bugner stopped Wepner in 3 rounds.

Horst Geisler stopped Wepner in 10 rounds.

Anton, Bazza also used to throw out feeble threats to the regulars and when people stood up to him his only recource was, like you, to delete their responses.

I found Bazza a great source of amusement.

Enjoy your holiday :D

FYI, I don't have a great deal of interest in boxers outside my region.
Enjoy your cruise around the world

Very well told Granberry...You obvioulsy are the expert with the facts to back-up your
statements while others have absolutely no clue.

Collins for example is totaly confused. I can't believe Ali is complaining about getting hit
behind the head. His entire carrer he would hook other boxers behing the head...totally illegal
tactic and was allowed to get away with it. Not to mention the running around that equaled a WWF performance.

On the Tommy Ryan-Hugo Kelly thread I wrote:

"Kelly had an odd stance, leaning away in a manner similar to the stance Georges Carpentier used against Frank Klaus in a fight early in Carpentier's career."

It turned out it was the film of Carpentier fighting Klaus, in a very fuzzy state.

Thanks for calling attention to my expertise in boxing stances, the absolute fundamental of the subject.

You said that after someone else pointed out that it was George Carpentier. Before that you said it was Tommy Ryan. Silly Francis

collins clone ebeneezer is lying.

ebeneezer is so desperate that he has to tamper with the thread and post his own url of the thread in his falsified form.

The collins clones like ebeneezer will lie and falsify in their desperation.

</b>

As can be seen,

I mentioned that the fighter supposedly Hugo Kelly had a stance like Carpentier

before GreatA posted that it was not Kelly and Ryan but was actually Klaus and Carpentier in a very fuzzy film.

anyone seen the movie/DVD
SOUL POWER.
It is about the 3 day music festival they had in Zaire 6 weeks before Ali and Foreman fought in 1974.
It has James Brown who sings"Soul Power" The Payback,Cold Sweat,Shout it Loud and Try Me.
Also The Spinners,Bill Withers,B.B King,Sister Sledge and others.
It has a few segments with Muhammad Ali that I never seen before but curiously
no scenes at all with George Foreman, even in the 45 minutes of deleted scenes.
