Vegan-Vegetarian boxers

Post by Robinson »

I know Bernard Hopkins is a Vegetarian or perhaps a quasi Vegan.

But how many fighters have opted to take this life style. I imagine
it would be a lot easier these days to have such diet, but I am still
curious.

Thanks again

I have never heard that Hopkins was.

Timothy Bradley eats that way during training. Very dangerous imo to ignore protein although I'm sure anyone doing it takes a ton of supplements and pills. Which always makes me laugh.

Not eating meat is one thing. BUt proclaiming a 'vegan lifestyle' is generally
ignorant.

For example the PC we all are using has stearic acid in it which comes from
beef tallo. Alot of medicines are derived from animals. The leather gloves
and bags in a gym. Etc Etc.

I am just curious how many fighters get by with a vegan or near vegan
diet. Even whey protein powder uses milk...not to mention a lot of supps
use animal products and even PEs.

Ah well :)

Yeah, it's preposterous. But Bradley does do one or the other during training.

Allan Green is another, not sure if he changed that up after getting most of his colon removed or not.

I can't imagine there are many Boxers of the past that didn't eat food that had parents.

Agreed. But you never know.

I have a friend who is a vegan society sort. A lad in it
trains in BJJ and 'mma'. He uses supps, owns leather
gloves and all that but he is vegan because he does
not eat flesh. You know the sort. Anyhow he claims
that a few boxers of the past were vegans. I am
curious who. I think it is just a load of wank on his
part though ;)

The wide majority of 'vegetarians' are not 'vegans' which is sort of like vegetarianism on steroids . .

Eder Jofre was a vegetarian, for starters. I know there were a coupel of other contenders from the 60s who I remember were vegetarians but my mind is going blank . .

How do they go using leather gloves and boots? Not to mention Neetsfoot (chicken fat)oil to preserve them?

I wonder how Jewish and Muslim boxers go having to eat pigskin gloves for rounds on end? Do they have to get specially made gloves and (in the Jewish instance) get them blessed?

Do Hindu boxers have to steer clear of cow skin gloves and use synthetic boots?

What a ringing endorsement

The guy whose career highlights include a, 'Damn, so close!' points loss to a near 50-year-old Foreman & a 60-second guest spot in the ring with a washed-up Tyson.

Scratch that. I got curious & looked it up. Turns out it was a 38-second guest spot with a washed-up Tyson. Ah, the halcyon days of Lou's prime.

I don't believe I've ever encountered a "healthy" looking vegetarian. It's hard to believe a fighter, or any professional athlete could exist on that crap.

and Ike Ibeabuci knows about as much about how to treat women as you do about being civil in boxing forum.

Now don't get mad at me, I'm lookin out for you by tryin' to appeal to your better angels there, Gran.

And I agree, there are plenty of ways for the vegetable-arians to get good protein. Tofu is a pretty good example of an alternate that meets the vegan's needs.

Possibly. I think he was appealing for civility on your part. Something I seconded.

Don't push your luck, or you'll too be off on a world cruise.

I don't care what you consider yourself to be nor how invaluable you consider yourself, you are not to hang shite on fellow members nor Boxerc.

I know enrique offers his own psychiatric analyses to anyone who doesn't agree with him.

Now ric apparently thinks he is psychic and knows what goes on in the minds of others.

I will say that boxrec is 'invaluable' as a example of the level of knowledge of the typical internet poster on the subject.
