YURI GAMBOA v BARROS

Post by MightyWarrior »

The Cuban puncher, bringing some Tito Trinidad style excitement to the featherweights, defends his title in Hamburg tonight, and for those with Hotbird you can pick it up on German channel SAT 1 around 21.30 tonight.

By my count, that's 4 big free to air channels in Germany that show major boxing, which really highlights the poor state of the UK boxing TV scene.

They are leading with what must be the latest German heavyweight hope Steffen Kretschmann, in a brave looking rematch with Denis Bakhtov, who knocked him out inside a round last time out.

It's shaping up to be a good night of boxing :TU:

Yeah it'll be a crime if they don't make the Lopez fight soon, while it's red hot.

Trouble is, Gamboa is a fantastic talent, but he doesn't seem to take a punch as well as he hands it out, so there's always the possibility he could walk onto a finisher - he's careless sometimes, such is his confidence..looks like another durable Argie, unbeaten too - that's what makes Gamboa such great viewing, because you know there's a knockout coming.

No knockout tonight, Gamboa really did not put his foot on the pedal. Gamboa was even rocked momentarily in the eighth or ninth with a right hand. He clearly won, but it was frustrating to watch. I have always though JML would beat him, and if anything this fight solidified my opinion (although single fights only mean so much).
