But it's not like he killed himself desperately trying to make the limit, is it? Seeing as he's a welterweight. So you'd have thought that doing something like this deliberately would incur a large amount of wrath, & possibly even umbrage.

This is obviously the face of a very contrite & sincerely sorry individual.

some people have put some serious negative posts on here of kerry kayes, he was only brought in with 3 weeks to go probably to try and help guzman cos he was probably in serious shite with his weight problems, nobody knows why he came in 9lbs over, cant point the finger at kk

People can only go on what information is available to them, and as KK was Guzman's nutritionist, you'd have to think he should be taking some slack for this, surely?

Its not just Guzmans face in that photo that annoys me, its Beard's also, grinning like he could not give a sh*t. Its an absurd photo and they should all be ashamed of themselves. The entire debacle degrade's boxing.

i agree with you ali 100% and that photo pisses me off guzman and beard have no excuse there trying to pull a fast one big time, if i was funeka i would take the money and fcuk off, but the criticism kerry has received is unfair as he was only just bought on board with a few weeks to go, who is to say he was with guzman the whole 3 weeks he could of just advised him while he was over here for the short time.

It looks like he's stripped off, then realised he's suffered weight loss in an embarrassing area.

Kerry gets the fighters down in weight the best possible way and like some are saying kez only had 3 weeks with guzman and he can't be with him 24 7 it is up to guzman wen he goes home from the gym! Might have had a lot off crap food wen on own and not following kerrys eating plans!

I agree, you can't blame KK too much. But the trainer should have him on the scales every day and must have known this was going to happen.

Lee Beard is still quite inexperienced as a trainer but I cant believe this happened with Kerry Kays in charge.

Guzman is such a talented fighter but he's let himself down big time here.

He wouldn't be 175lb if he stepped up, perhaps simply the same weight.

There are some claims from guzman's manager that an electric sauna suit that Kerry Kayes had didn't work because of the voltage. it was on examiner .com I think

LMAO!

Kayes used to say he always tried to persuade Hatton to stop wearing a sauna/sweat suit but Ricky would not!

The only person responsible is Guzman !! He has been in this game a lot longer than both Lee and Kerry !!! He should be keeping himself in good condition all year round while keeping an eye on his weight, he is a professional athlete after all. I sparred Joan 3 Fridays before his fight and rumour has it he was 22lbs off the LW limit then!!
Lee and Kerry should not be blamed !!
I am glad Joan won because I had the chance to work with him, but I do feel for Funeka. Ali Funeka should still be the IBF #1 challenger he deserves to be world champ. While Guzman should be made to move up by all governing bodies.

Guzman is a very talented fighter and I agree he has to be punished for this, he was way too relaxed in the run up to the fight in my opinion and he lied about his weight to Max Kellerman and said he tried to sweat it off. It wasnt a great build up and some of the blame has to go on Kerry Kayes and Lee Beard, but I do think Guzman will improve with both of them in his camp and he certainly looked better in the ring last night.

So did Guzman actually improve on his last fight with Funeka? Aside from not making the weight, has Beard made any noticeable differences?

And I got slated for questioning his work ethic in the gym.

I said in my orgonal post that there was an air of respect from Guzman towards Kays when Kerry walked in. There was a slightly different demenour.

I'll have to find a stream of the fight next week
According to Lee, guzman is really impressed with the work he has done with Kerry.

Spoke to Kerry and Lee last week and Kerry spoke about what he was doing with Guzman, etc, interview will go up on the sticky BS thread. No doubt Terry D will post the link once its up.
Did Kerry Kaye notice any signs of Guzman struggling to make the weight?
