Making weight in Amateur Tourneys...
I was just wondering, do boxers that participate in boxing tournaments that last several days still have to make the weight every time they have a bout? Or do they just make weight on time and can pack on the weight afterward? Especially in the Olympics.
Re: Making weight in Amateur Tourneys...
Boxers must make weight every day that they compete in any tournament, including the Olympics. I've heard that Golden Gloves doesn't follow this rule, but they often break/bend the rules.

Golden gloves breaks and bends every rule
Re: Making weight in Amateur Tourneys...
Uncalled for Mel. Why do you have to defame the GG at every turn? The Michigan GG requires boxers to weigh-in every day of the tournament in which the boxer is competing.boxmel wrote:Boxers must make weight every day that they compete in any tournament, including the Olympics. There have been international competitions where boxers weighed in the day before competition and it had nothing to do with GG. Be careful where you point the finger.

I disagree. I have seen USAB break its own rules.T Duquette wrote:Golden gloves breaks and bends every rule

Like today? I think Dennis know what I'm talking about. Do you know Mel? Maybe the socal GG are screwed up, that don't mean the GG breaks the rules they might not follow them on non Olympic years but what excuse are you going to make when USAB breaks the rules and here are 2 examples that are facts and violation of the rules.
2009 golden gloves nationals, they allowed non citizen to compete so no point was giving to the champion by USA boxing.
2009 USA championship, A boxer was DQd and right after the match the boxer was giving his medal, don't the rules states that a boxer that is DQd will not get any medal,points,money..ex
Please help me get this right, who breaks rules or define rules
Re: Making weight in Amateur Tourneys...
The organizations that can amend/revise and/or make new rules are also the ones who often break the rules. AIBA makes and breaks rules. USAB makes and breaks rules. GG doesn't make rules, but they are given exceptions/exemptions to some rules because of being a group member.

Not breaking the rules but definitely GG can do what they want. We just had our championship and the bouts were great, but open bouts were only three 2-minute rounds.

The dc team is really strong from 132 lbs to 178. I think this is one of their better teams.

I agree but we have a really young team too. I'm excited to the new "JO" classs does in the regionals and nationals. What's interesting is that we have three gyms represented by 7 of the boxers below. Russells @ Keystone. Rivers, Grayton and Kelly @ Headbangers. Ballard and Odom @ NoXcuse.ddmanning wrote:The dc team is really strong from 132 lbs to 178. I think this is one of their better teams.

Yea thats a good looking team, Kevin is a smooth boxer, Gary has always been good, I've sparred both David and D'mitrius which are both good as well, I know D'mitrius wants a rematch with my teammate from the Marine Corps. who beat him I think 2 months ago but they'll probably fight again considering that Damarias is fighting tomorrow night in the finals for the VA Golden Gloves which he should winDCAmateurBoxing wrote:I agree but we have a really young team too. No he's recovering from an injury. He'll be back soon. Also, Alantez Fox didn't compete this year because they were supposed to have a training camp for the World Youth Tourney in Baku during the tournament. It was cancelled apparently. Would have like to have seen him in the mix with Douglas. Regionals is in two weeks vs NC/VA.grantboxing wrote:Strong team from DC this year. Last years team was strong also. Re: Making weight in Amateur Tourneys...
Man if alantez fox and douglas were in the tourny, and you add in grayton, moore and jaycees and that would of been the most stacked division in a regional tourny that ive ever heard of for the golden gloves. That would of been 5 really good fighters, and any one of them could win depending on the draw.

I agree. USA Tourney starts in April, so they should all be in the mix hopefully.ddmanning wrote:Man if alantez fox and douglas were in the tourny, and you add in grayton, moore and jaycees and that would of been the most stacked division in a regional tourny that ive ever heard of for the golden gloves.
