Why not? Clearly hit him when he was on his knees. I can see when and why it could be reflex and a boxer should be forgiven however in that fight watch AA setting his legs, bring his right hand back and deliberately hit him transferring his weight into the punch. Dirrell when I first saw it, looked like he was faking it, because he moves back, puts his his glove to the head, is saying something and falls to his left and is catatonic.. then all that " I got knocked teh fornicate out man! " just all looked fake HOWEVER after having teh video a few times more I am not sure now..his head snapped sideways against the natural contours of motion so he could well be hurt, I just dont know anymore!. AA for his part is a stupid w***er for doing it, what if he had ended the life or lively hood of young boxer just becaus ehe was getting his ass handed to him for 10 rounds? Rightly DQ'd and should be banned.

After watching the video several times i still cant decide whether Andre Dirrell was definently knocked out but i can tell you it was a knock out punch for sure. You see Arthur Abraham pivot his foot when swinging the right and when it connects it jolts his head to the side, and Dirrell was on the floor not expcting the punch and anybody who has had a fist fight can tell you the worst punches are the ones you don't expect! Even if it didn't KO Dirrell he still had every right not to continue and fein a KO and get the DQ he would have been on queer street and all over the place if he got up and continued from an illegal punch! Say if Dirrell had got up and continued and gone on to lose the fight you would all be screaming what an injustice it was.

Abraham's an uncompromising, tough, dirty fighter who's been shown up. I've never really liked how he gets away with following through right hands with his elbow. And his reaction afterwards, claiming he doesn't look to see if his opponent is down he looks at their eyes was laughable. What, looking at your opponent's eyes when he's on his knees looking at the floor.

Dirty fighters don't really worry me, but dirty fighters who whine when they get some back really really piss me off, & as I've mentioned, any shot below the nipples & AA whines to the ref.

just because he was losing a fight doesn't mean he was "shown up" or exposed. he was behind, vs a tall, fast fighter who was also a southpaw, away from home. it looked like abraham was solving the puzzle, albeit a bit late. it's a shame he did what he did, though we don't know if it was in bad temper or just reflex. because he might have been able to salvage the win (or might not). it could have been his toney-nunn type of fight, if it had gone on. the man has a massive punch, which he can land at unexpected moments. if i was a fighter i don't think i'd kneel down in front of king arthur.

the fact is that dirrell throws himself to the floor all the time, he did it several times vs froch ina fight that clearly "showed up" dirrell as a guy unwilling to committ; and to me it seems to be a problem. as a person who has wanted someone to smash wlad k in the back of his head when he turns around during clinch breaks, i can't complain too much that dirrell caught one in the face while possibly looking for the canvas.

That cheap stunt he pulled made the WWE look like an oscar winning period drama.

Abraham has now been tagged as some sort of horrible cheat, which is way off the mark.
He didnt look like falling over at any stage of the 12 rounds with Carl, mate. He just boxed the head off someone you said was favourite, yet you cant give him credit? He is a very good boxer, like it or not.Just because your mate couldnt lay a glove on him does not mean you should criticise everything he does

i think it was just killer instinct with aa. not seen the rest of the fight because i was away with the family but the punch just seemed like the heat of the moment.

Dirrel boxed the ears off Abraham all night long, but I've always thought Abrahams was vastly over-rated, linited as fornicate imo. Deserved to be disqualified.

The reason he slipped is because of the stupid adverts on the canvas, dont know how they can get away with all that stuff, its far too slippy for the guys to box on, a bit of water on it and your are on your arse

Barely tapped him!!?!! You're having a laugh aintcha!?! Dirrell's just boxed best part of 11 rounds and is on the floor and not even looking to be hit. Even if he'd not gone down and got up spat out his gumshield and gone for Abraham you'd still have to DQ Arthur for that. It was bad form on Abraham's part and he paid the price he deserved.

I just want to see a clean fight to be honest between evenly matched fighters. Don't want to see anyone smashed in the face just because they've an annoying style and 'slip/fall' over alot. The ref's job to sort that out, not the opponents to smash him in the mouth when he's defenceless and on his knees! :shame:

So what about the numerous low blows Dirrell landed ?

Or the completely biased referee who totally ignored a legit knockdown for Abraham and who stepped in to drag him to a doctor, when he had Dirrell pinned in a corner ?

The shot barely glanced Dirrell. Yet he had a moment to grimace, raise his hand to his head before then taking a WWE nap. Anyone who saw Abraham against Gevor, Taylor or Ayala will tell you what a genuine, chilling Abraham KO looks like. The fighter is out cold before they hit the deck - certainly not have a whinge and a scratch of their forehead before falling the opposite direction of impact.

Nobody is disputing that it was an illegal blow. But when you watch the shot in realtime, rather than repeatedly in slow motion, he throws it so quick he barely thinks about it.

If Dirrell never made a meal out of it, the referee wouldn't have either.

He's certainly nowhere near as 'honest' as you put it as Arthur Abraham.

So because of that it's okay he gets hit when he's on the floor and he just got what he deserved? Fair enough!

Absolutely.

He should have climbed onto the corner and done a flying turnbuckle on him, before grabbing a chair and hitting him with it. Throw in some midgets and some flames and we'd have had an event.

Then the pantomime would have been complete.

Really... sorry Gomez but watching different fight to you. He looked pretty hurt to me and the body can do weird things when you've been knocked out and i know from experience the shots you don't see are the ones that do the damage.

We'll agree to disagree then Dirt.

But in closing, all the concussive, sleep-rendering punches ive ever seen thrown, render the recipient almost comatose before their limp bodies crumpled to the floor. For me it was a glancing thumb and not a knuckle that landed - and hardly Tua vs Ruiz standards.

Your correct,he never knocked him spark out,but within the rules of the sport,he was correctly disqualified. The same as Jamie Moore a few years ago.You just cant go hitting people when they are not in a position to defend themselves, simple

Another one in the eye for the sport.

Everything about that stoppage was wrong. The punch, the response, the ref's decision...

After setting up the Super 6 (great idea) boxing is grapsing defeat from the jaw's of victory.

Absolutely agree. Im very impressed with the lad. And personally i thought Dirrell beat Froch.

On a separate note tho, the ref really wasnt helping Abraham... constantly warning him and didnt even give count when he legitimately dropped Dirrell

Yep thats true on the ref. The doctor helped Abraham though - worked as a seperate cut man!

Just watched the full fight last night and have to say that I thought Dirrell looked great in there. He didn't give Abraham much time to get off his punches, the first 8 rounds resembled Pacquiao Clottley in some ways.

I think Arthur was getting back into it but I dont believe that Dirrell was looking for an easy way out, Abraham didnt land that many punches.

You did get the feeling though that every time Arthur swung he could do some damage to Andre.

Andre knocked down Arthur in the 4th and appeared to hurt/stun him at times. The tenth round knock down should have been counted.

The DQ was a fair result.

Hats off to Dirrell, only 20 fights and he's just fought Froch and Abraham back to back and given them both a lot of trouble, I think this tournament could be the making of him, if it weren't for the super 6 he might have had to wait years for this level of competition and experience.

Dirrell can't half get a shot off quickly which i think makes his shots so effective, I said after the Froch fight he's the quickest at this weight since RJJ at his pomp and i think Dirrell is very nearly as fast as Jones.
