Joe, I’m coming to get U, Baby! Yelled Lacy to the camera immediately after stopping Williams in the 7th round on Showtime.
Since Joe’s promoter is in good with Showtime and Joe is looking for fight a legacy type fight,
I see this as the best fight out there for both fighters. The eyes of the Americas are on U, Joe.
Lacy and Williams went toe to toe last night in a slug fest apparently, Lacy is a big strong guy with a good punch output but maybe he isn't the puncher he was once perceived to be. People question his jab and footwork but the guy is exciting and keeps on winning so i think a fight between him and Calzaghe would be great, however i cannot see it happening as Calzaghe now has his eyes on Clinton Woods. Calling out Woods was a great fallback to avert attention from the fact he is not fighting worthy competetors at the weight he is "dominating" as he so aptly reminds us each time he is interviewed.

I hope you realise Calzaghe is seen as the biggest joke in world boxing. Ask anyone.
Bullshit!
If he's such a joke, why does lacy want to fight him then?
Why do you think, money.
Sometimes this forums is a British nutthugger society. Now we're all praising Calzaghe. I'm not even going to get started b/c I'd be wasting my time.
If you don't think that some of the things Calzaghe says are ridiculous, and if you don't think he is seen as a joke by american boxing fans (objective fans), then I have nothing more to say about calzaghe.

And he is not the best SM out there by any means.
If he is seen as a joke by american boxing fans then I have a question for you, Why would Lacy call him out as soon as fight was over? Doesnt make sense. Nor do you.
Lacy called out Calzaghe because Lacy sees him as a reasonably low risk marquee fight. They're looking at the most money for the least risk (same as anyone; you'll notice Calzaghe didn't get on the phone to Tarver after he beat Jones, did he?).
Before I say something really nasty and disappointment-fueled about "our" JC I'm going to take my mum's advice (can't say nowt nice, don't say nowt)...
Butbutbutbutbut.... What, pray tell, did mighty Joe do to be declared the "king" of the super middles? Was it that win over Tocker Pudwill? Mario Veit? Or perhaps Byron Mitchell (after he'd lost to Ottke, natch). I must've missed something. I think he's boiling under, just like Lacy and Beyer and Green and Kessler.
All on the same level; belt-holders not "rulers". Unless you mean a flat piece of material for determining the length of something.
lvlarc_uk wrote:Shit people really do underestimate Joe Calzaghe, he is the super middleweight champion and he deserves to be so
He is the WBO champion, which is the lowest valed of the main titles he should be up their but he isn't willing to prove it, Do you think Brian Magee is really legitimate world title fodder, Calzageh wants low risk fights and dosen't have the self respect to try to prove to the boxing world he wold rather whore himself out in second rate fights and be a home town hero.
I'm in the opposite position of most of you guys, I've seen Lacy fight several times but have not seen Calzaghe.
For all the talk around him I think Lacy is a somewhat flawed fighter, he ahs a tendency once he gets to thinking he can KO a guy to stop boxing and charge in throwing wide shots. IMO this almost cost him the Sheika fight as Sheika was able to take his punches and fight back. I also agree with steve689 that him punching power may be somewhat overrated. Sheika was able to take his best power shots, so was Williams until the volume wore him down. I'm not sure he's a once-punch KO artist at the championship level.
Again, I haven't seen Calzaghe, but if he can keep his distance from a swarmer like Lacy I think he has a better shot than people may think.
like it or not JC is still the man to beat at SMW, dubious matchmaking has tarnished his rep no end recently but with Ottke gone he's the guy they're aiming to fight, hence the callout from Lacy.
Agreed, whilst Joe's career has been nothing to write home about of late, for my money he's still the best. I think Lacy is pretty green still, and so is green, be interesting if they actually fought one another though.

Well I think that a few SM's would whop Calzaghe, as do a lot of other fans./
I personally take Woods' take on things. For all Calzaghe's talent and supremacy (if you call it that) in SM, it doesn't give him a divine right to jump the queue for a Woods fight. (Alledgedly) Think of the work Woods had to do. Or Eastman. Or Witter.

kessler, green, lacy etc, theyd all beat "comfort zone" calzaghe
