Cronje -v- Nel

Post by Brute »

Pieter Cronje is down to fight Anton Nel in South Africa on Saturday.

Nel's last fight was on 17/11/06 on the Gold Coast when Kali Meehan flattened him in three rounds. Nel will be 42 in July. I doubt if he will do much better this time.

That is an... er... interesting option for a fight.

Maybe we should not go crook so often on local match makers if this is the international standard.

Overseas writers denigrated Meehan after he beat Jeremy Bates (a better fighter pulled out of the fight). Did not stop Bates being thrown in with former WBO Champ Lyakovich.

He must have caught Peiter cold, As ive seen him take some huge shots. I judged his last 2 fights here and he was looking good. The draw with Takahara was one of the best fights ive seen live.

"Caught cold." I remember Ron (Won) Casey giving that excuse for Tony Mundine after Luis Rodriguez flattened him in the first round of their 1971 fight. Could Cronje have the same chin problem Tony had?

Fair effort for Nel to end a long losing streak after a three year plus lay off. After Meehan KOed him in 2006 I thought he was finished.

I agree mate,
Leapai landed some bombs in that fight also. Peiter has a good chin.

i just read he was stopped with a body shot, That explains it then.

Cronje sems to get KOED a lot in South Africa. Seems his chin is made of concrete here.

Do 40 something year old S Africans hit harder than us Aussies?

Nel did not punch that well against Meehan. That was the only fight I have seen him in. He and Machimana have a KO win each against each other. Now they both have wins over Cronje.

Cronje lacks experience. He has only had 14 fights, but I thought he would do better against Nel.

by the sounds of it it was started by a ripper punch and then nel just unloaded until the ref stopped it. just like green v jones i suppose. it happens sometimes.

Nel did't not stop cronje by a boddy shot. He caught him unbalanced and yhen when cronje was against the ropes Nel just jump forward and keep on punching. He didn't hurt Cronje at all and the next moment the ref rampool jump between them and call the fight off. If he think Cronje was in trouble he should count him but so this ref was just not qualified enough for the fight. Even nel say after the fight the ref stop the fight to easy.

Cronje can rather stay here in OZ and the fighters is better here. As the guys say earlier some refs just stop fights to quick. The same when Green fight RJones. Green rocked him for a count but Nel never rocked cronje. Even Harold Volbreght the man in Cronje conner say he cannot believe the fight was stop like that.

he took dozens of the biggest bombs in leapai's arsenal and didn't go down. he is as tough as nearly any fighter i've seen.

a source said that cronje wasn't even hurt but because nel caught him on the ropes nel threw a flurry of punches as cronje covered up and the ref jumped in between straight away and stopped it for the safety of cronje, cronje after the fight protested and ask for a rematch.
