Corectamundo stu,
Joe has avoided Larsen ever since they both crashed the big time 7 or 8 years ago. :TU:

joe won't be interested, he'll likely just head straight up to 175 and take on Woods.

Woods does not believe Calzaghe should walk straight into a title challenge.
"Let him come up to light-heavy and fight an eliminator and I'll give him his crack."

"I'd love to fight Glencoffe again, that's the fight I want," said Woods.

whilst Joe's career has been nothing to write home about of late, for my money he's still the best.
I think Lacy is pretty green still, and so is green, be interesting if they actually fought one another though.

Lacy & green may be green, but both camps will tell U Joe’s yellow (with brown spots) from rotting away on the vine.Image
“It doesn't matter,” Lacy quipped. “Green, Mundine, Calzaghe, whoever.
We feel that if we have to go over into their territory and as long we are getting treated fairly and Showtime will come along,
I have no problem in going over into their backyards.”

If history tells us anything, the scenario will end up with Green facing Lacey & Yellow facing Aqua Veit.

I think Green will fight Lacy if he beats Beyer, He has said a few times in the press here he wants to fight the best fighters in the division and mentioned Lacy.
Calzaghe wants no part of Lacy or Green and will never fight them if you brits keep claiming he is the best in the division even though he hasn't fought a decent opponent in 3-4 years.
The funny thing is if Green and Lacy fight then the winner will be the universally recognised champion and Calzaghe will just fade away into nothing.
Maybe Calzaghe can fight Mundine for the title of best talker in the division :TU: :TU:

kessler, green, lacy etc, theyd all beat "comfort zone" calzaghe
Kessler maybe, Green and Lacy think they are still too green. ALthough with Calzaghe's latest level of competition, who knows.

Well Joe beat Omar Sheikah much more comfortably than Lacy, but what you have is two guys who are probably going in different directions. Lacy's improviing, whereas Joe's struggling a bit. He really did look poor against Salem and only his chin kept him in that fight. Joe really should go up to light-heavy. It'll do him a world of good not having to shed that last seven pounds and he'll be even stronger. I've always felt he was a light-heavy just waiting to happen. He's a tall lad.

I think Green has beaten better fighters than Kessler has and he also had a decent amature career as well.

Green has beaten one fighter that is better than anyone that Kessler has beaten (Lucas) but thats about it. Kessler also had a very good amateur career (44-3, won gold in european junior championships)

I think Kessler's style would be more problematic for Calzaghe, who struggles most against boxers. Calzaghe has always prevailed against face forward aggressive types in the past. Green is definetly this type of fighter.

I have Lacy vs Vanderpool on DVD, and this is the only fight I've seen of him.

He looked quite good, certainly very strong, but nothing amazing. Looks big at the weight too, very muscular indeed. Would be an interesting fight with Calzaghe.

I reckon Lacy probably does shit loads of weights looking at his build, he absolutely fornicating massive. Don't reckon it's helping his punching power that much though.

Didn't Lacy come over here as an amateur and beat Chris Bessey, or one of our top guys at the time? An England V USA match at the London Hilton, though what year escapes me.

It is clear that the big fights are now out their for calzaghe and if he wants
to fight the top super middles, he no longer has the Ottke won't fight
excuse if he dosen't take these oppertunities and fights the likes of
Magee whilst dreaming of Woods and light Heavy shots it reflects very poorly on him

Fightnews -

German promotional powerhouse Universum just secured the rights to stage the WBO 168lb clash between world champ Joe Calzaghe (38-0; 30KOs) and interim champ Mario Veit (45-1; 23KOs). Universum, headed by Peter Kohl, won the purse offers moments ago in London, England, outbidding Calzaghe's promoter allegedly. Kohl won the bids offering an astonishing 1,750,000 US $, with Warren bidding in 900,000. Calzaghe handed Veit his lone professional loss four years ago but, after that clash, Veit rebounded with 15 consecutive wins and recently seized the WBO interim belt stopping former world champ Charles Brewer in nine rounds. For the fight to be definitely on, Calzaghe has to get past Irish hero Brian Magee on March 18 in Belfast, Northern Ireland. Of course, there is always the possibility that Calzaghe opts to move up to light heavy after the March 18 clash instead of travelling to Germany and face Veit a second time.

Holy Moly, this couldhappen. If Warren didn't put in a bid at all I wouldn't have been surprised.

Viet, in Germany. I'll accept that one.

Well, I think the fact that Warren put in such a small bid is the clearest indication yet that Calzaghe is going to move up in weight.

I didn't think it was that small a bid. A clearer indication would have been if no bids were offered from team Calzaghe. Perhaps there have been some instruction that Calzaghe will fight Viet should he get more than 500,000.

The Calzaghe camp will get $1.050.000 and Veit will get $700.000

Had Warren won with the $900.000 bid both Calzaghe and Veit would get $450.000 each.

How does that work? I thought the purse was split 75-25 for mandatory burse bids.

From the WBO regulations:
In fights for a vacant title or eliminatory fights, or in fights between a Champion and an Interim Champions (except in the case where one of the contestants is a Super Champion in which case the Super Champions provision for purse bid division shall apply) the distribution shall be as follows:

a) If the fight is held in the country of origin, residence or nationality of one of the contender, the resident contestant shall receive 40% and his opponent shall receive 60% off the total purse offered.

b) If the fight is held in a neutral place or if the contenders are from the same country of origin, residence or nationality, in such a way that neither have an advantage over the other, the purse shall be divided in equal parts between the contenders.
But I just read further down their regulations. It seems that Calzaghe is a WBO super champions because
1. It is the policy of the World Boxing Organization to encourage its Champions to pursue recognized status as undisputed World Champions and to unify the Championships of the four major world sanctioning organizations (the WBO, WBA, WBC and IBF). A World Champion who has achieved preeminent status may require and be entitled to additional scheduling flexibility to achieve his place in boxing history and for the good of the sport. A boxer may be considered for designation for Super Champion status when he meets the following criteria:

A. The boxer presently or previously has or had a multiple bout contract with a major television network (HBO, SHOWTIME, ZDF, Sky or other similar broadcast company), for multiple years; and

B. As a WBO Champion,

i. The boxer has successfully defended his title cumulatively a minimum of ten (10) title bouts, or;

ii. In the event of less than ten (10) successful defenses has defended his/her title against opponents of high recognition and high skills; and

iii. Has substantially met the other standards set forth herein.

C. The boxer’s amateur history will be considered; and

D. The quality of opponents will be considered. Additionally, the following factors will be considered in determining Super Champion designation:

E. A victory over another Super Champion; or

F. Has been a Champion in more than one (1) weight division; or

G. Held more than one (1) belt; or

H. A boxer who has unified the championships of more than one (1) of the four (4) major sanctioning bodies shall be strongly considered for Super Champion status.

I. Current champion status is not required to qualify as a Super Champion.

The Championship Committee may recommend Super Champion status for the boxer to the Executive Committee, if a boxer has substantially complied with the conditions set forth herein. Super Champion status shall be determined by the vote of the Executive Committee.
So how the purse is spilt I have no idea of.

This is by Per Aake Persson
Universum won the purse offers yesterday in London for Joe Calzaghe v Mario Veit with an offer for 1,7 million USD and plans the fight for May 7. How the money is split is a bit unclear as Calzaghe holds a "superchamp" status inside the WBO while Veit holds the interim title.
My guess that only WBO, Warren and Kohl know how it is split
