The chap who exposed Calzaghe to ridicule...

At the bottom of this piece is a good article on this 'investigative journalist' from a few years ago.
He has done some good, genuine public interest pieces (the one on the Newcastle directors, for example) but the helmet normally just does the journalistic equivalent of w*nking over people's soiled underwear.
(Oh, I know there's a little formatting problem with the piece but I'm suffering a little glitch at the moment and can't amend.)

heheh. like the use of 'bell end'.
Re: The chap who exposed Calzaghe to ridicule...
Fine work Ian.
He looks like someone on Coach Trip who'd get a red card for being a smug tool.

I think its good he's been exposed. If this whole scandal was regarding Froch, for example, everyone would be juimping on him.
Because its Calzaghe, the nice sweet family guy from a countryside village, its ok.

Re: The chap who exposed Calzaghe to ridicule...
Have to say that its the best headline I've read in a while. "Bell-end"
Re: The chap who exposed Calzaghe to ridicule...
"I wonder how many tabloid journalists occasionally dabble in cocaine?"
I always find this line (no pun intended) interesting and have pursued it with several journalists over the years as my missus worked for a red top for many years so I've been at many a function where it has been flowing.
Always thought I should have taken some snaps with my camera phone, but I'm not that type of guy.

They are such hypocrites aren't they? Let's hope someone sticks it to him with a exposé in the near future, that would be just hilarious.
I was reading an interview in the Standard yesterday, with the ex editor of the sun, who was saying how ashamed he was, once he sobered up after 25 years boozing, over the pointless stories he'd run that ruined basically good people's lives.

Loving your work.
Re: The chap who exposed Calzaghe to ridicule...
Unfortunately someone has to taking a kicking for them to sell lots of newspapers.
If your going to hang with the media set, then you have to watch out for this kind of stuff.
I didnt know 130 people were behind bars because of MM though, surely not all are innocent ?
Whilst Ian's bang on with his piece, who tipped MM off ? that's the real point i reckon.

I read that too! He really did come across as ashamed, unlike other former editors of that toilet paper.MightyWarrior wrote:They are such hypocrites aren't they? Let's hope someone sticks it to him with a exposé in the near future, that would be just hilarious.

As for this article, its great to see boxrec not jumping on the bash calzaghe bandwagon, which everbody else seems to be doing. And to think the journalist in question went to court to stop photos of himself being printed using privacy laws...
Re: The chap who exposed Calzaghe to ridicule...
Nice article Ian
Thing is though, the tabloids aren't interested in news, it's got to be about scandal and gossip all the time and unfortunately people lap it up. Tabloids are notorious for building people up and then knocking them down(wait until this summer with the WC when we'll have the NOTW and The Sun and all the others with their "WE CAN DO IT!" "IT'S OUR YEAR!" headlines and when we predictably get knocked out in the last 16 or quarter finals then we'll have all the usual tripe about this and that) they thrive off other peoples misfortune because they know it will sell papers and when they are in the wrong and are facing legal action then they'll put a few lines in the middle pages saying they're sorry.
Tabloids and their thirst for scandal and gossip make me glad that I'm just an average bloke, I'd probably have gone fuckin' nuts if I were famous.

Re: The chap who exposed Calzaghe to ridicule...
This is my pet hate with the tabloids, every so often you'll get a front page headline about how the government are supposedly "stealing our privacy" and then a couple of pages in their "journalists" will report how they used a hidden camera to expose some model snorting coke. Horrible, hypocritical little parasites they are.JamesH wrote:I read that too! Re: The chap who exposed Calzaghe to ridicule...
Thing is, all the guys that say 'these journo's are so sad, get a proper job'' blha blah blah etc etc etc, they all buy tghe papers and gossip about the news, so the jouro's are making money.
Re: The chap who exposed Calzaghe to ridicule...
Good and worthy piece Ian.
I can't believe anyone reading the trashy article wouldn't be on Calzaghe's side and wonder what all the fuss is about.

pointless piece really, joe was hook line & sinker that's what journo's do simple.
Re: The chap who exposed Calzaghe to ridicule...
That isn't what 'journos' do. It's what scumbag journos do.hurlock wrote:pointless piece really, joe was hook line & sinker that's what journo's do simple.
Re: The chap who exposed Calzaghe to ridicule...
Quite a difficult one to guage morally. I'm of the stance of "two wrongs" here. Yep, the journo is a devious old so and so, using dirty tricks and could possibly be a hypocrite.
And yes, the article was correct in exposing this "journo's" previous dirty tactics. However, I think the "oh poor Joe, he's been duped" angle of the opinion here is a little bit OTT. Hard not to feel a tadge sorry for him, but also hard not to say "well, if Joe didn't do sniff we wouldn't be having this debate".
So yes, the journo was wrong for using these tricks, but at the same time Joe's wrong also. Yeah, I am sure many will say "What's Joe done so wrong... we all do it" - well if this was the case, then it wouldn't make the news. Joe admitting to getting pissed up wouldn't be there, would it.

Re: The chap who exposed Calzaghe to ridicule...
Its very good that you have stood up to be counted Ian McNeilly
It was such a mediocre `scandal` that it kinda back fired on the `bell-end` of a journo
Calzaghe just isn`t that famous .. he barely scrapes into the z-list. Its hardly shooting up heroin in some seedy squat. And he isn`t saying anything about Hatton, Khan or Naz that their own family and friends haven`t said to them already
And even scraping the barrel of the excuses the Calzaghe haters may use that he has a clean cut image ... I cannot think of any time he has openly critisized another celeb for drug taking .. even recreation drug taking.
Once again. Nice article Ian McNeilly, and the rest of the people who have made similar comments also

NOTW celebrity scandal paper??Ian 'Mr' McNeilly wrote:That isn't what 'journos' do. It's what scumbag journos do.hurlock wrote:pointless piece really, joe was hook line & sinker that's what journo's do simple.
question is how will this damage calzaghe??
where was he going??
Re: The chap who exposed Calzaghe to ridicule...
as a side note....Calzaghe has probably over the years developed an aversion to....or probably just could take or leave drink.
So he wants to get off his box...to someone like him the thought of knocking the pints back and getting fat probably repulses him, makes him feel a fat slob......so he opts for the calorie-free alternative lol??
If he were a normal sort of a fella he'd probably not touch the sh*t. It's not my cup of tea (coke), and yes it's illegal....but should non-boozers not be allowed to get of their tits as well as the rest of us??
What causes more aggro in the pubs and clubs....Coke or Booze??? Think we all know the answer there.
