The fight between Calzaghe and Veit has been scheduled for May 7. ----------German promotional powerhouse Universum just secured the rights to stage the WBO 168lb clash between world champ Joe Calzaghe (38-0; 30KOs) and interim champ Mario Veit (45-1; 23KOs). Universum, headed by Peter Kohl, won the purse offers moments ago in London, England, outbidding Calzaghe's promoter allegedly. Kohl won the bids offering an astonishing 1,750,000 US $, with Warren bidding in 900,000. Calzaghe handed Veit his lone professional loss four years ago but, after that clash, Veit rebounded with 15 consecutive wins and recently seized the WBO interim belt stopping former world champ Charles Brewer in nine rounds. For the fight to be definitely on, Calzaghe has to get past Irish hero Brian Magee on March 18 in Belfast, Northern Ireland. Of course, there is always the possibility that Calzaghe opts to move up to light heavy after the March 18 clash instead of travelling to Germany and face Veit a second time.
So he'll either have to:
- Fight in Germany
- Give up his title
- Move up to Light Heavy and fight who exactly? (Assuming that Woods keeps to his statement and refuses to give Calzaghe a chance til he earns one)
this is a very interesting occurence. When was the last time this happened to Warren? I'm glad it happened, finally joe will get rid of that trouserbelt.
Calzaghe will beat magee on points and then move up to light heavyweight to fight Woods.
Cant see him going over to Germany ..
Just cant see it myself.
Woods should not give Calzaghe a shot. Especially as Woods signed with Allegedly for a Calzaghe fight last year only to be told 2 weeks into camp it wasnt happening. Screw that sicknote.
Calzaghe is going to have to retire this year after he gets Carpal Tunnel Syndrome from writing so much about how he'd beat RJJ, Hopkins, Tyson, the Russian Army, et cetera.

he would die instead of travelling to our beautiful country.......
no matter how it goes, Veit will be champ and that´s great. he has ben working very hard and improving very much.
BTW here you could see where Europes best promoters are located.
