Post by mickey1975 »

Am i the only person on here who thinks this kid really is the business?Yes,he might not be the guttsiest but more than makes up for that in othe ways.He gets criticised for actually outboxing Froch and Abraham? What was he supposed to do,stand there till he got knocked out? There is a lot of really knowledgeable people on here, surely some must give credit where its due.

Did Dirrell really outbox Froch? He was far too negative in that fight, in my opinion.

I'd think he did. He avoided all of Froch's punches and landed more. He also landed the harder punches and had Froch briefly hurt in the tenth or eleventh. You don't lose a fight for being negative if you land more, harder, and have your opponent hitting nothing but air, at least that is my opinion.

Stand he certainly did not do when he got knocked out :TU:

On a serious note, he has skills, he fought a stinking fight against Froch, I was at it and he did not deserve to win in my eyes and against Abraham he boxed rings around him.

I think when he has it his way he will be very good, he's a lot of skill but when he is dragged into a deep fight I don't think he will have it deep down. Pity about the ending with Abraham, as with Abrahams power you cannot say he would have made the end of the 12th and we will never know that now.

He's good skills as a Boxer, just pity he fought badly against Froch as I thought live he was shocking to watch that night and Froch was not that much better. Do we give Froch credit though, he was not totally outboxed by Dirrell like Abraham was for most of the fight.

Froch did hit Dirrell, he did not hit "nothing but air".

Froch hardly landed anything at all. He missed the vast majority of the punches he threw. His offensive was largely ineffective and I can't recall one really meaningful shot he connected with. I felt Dirrell displayed great defense and was more effective/accurate when he opened up.

"When he has been dragged deep into a fight",you make it sound like he has just beaten a journeyman! He is doing what he is doing at the very top level, and still not coming unstuck.I would have loved a European to win this, but warned GOmez and the rest a while ago, they have no chance against all the contributing factors of the Americans. When this tournament was signed, everyone said (correctly) how great it was,but come on lads, ffs, its Ward or Dirrell's

Aye indeed.

Froch gave it beans, but could hardly land the leather.

Granted Dirrell was backing off a lot, but he still landed more punches and shouldn't have been giving the L.

I thought he boxed beautifully, but then I love speedy southpaws outboxing dopey orthodox fighters

We will need to see how he doe s when dragged deap into war but his attributes and expereince in the last two fights will have him beating most SMW opponents without too much bother.

It was very hard to look good against someone with such fast hands, feet and reflexes when they come with that gameplan.

Dirrell has all the skill in the world, but is not the complete package. If he'd have gotten up from the Abraham debacle (thats a separate discussion rat fans) and stuck it out he would have been headline news for all the right reasons.

But against Carl the dust has settled in such away that people remember him putting on this 'boxing clinic' when the reality is anything but.

On youtube he clinches 13 times and complains to the referee 4 times in just a single round. He gets warned 4 rounds on the spin to stop holding and then afterwards says he don't know why it got deducted. The following round within seconds he almost pulls froch through the ropes in a clinch. Nearly every round ends with a clinch.

I agree Dirrell does have the skill but if he were to win this tournament on performances like weve seen it would be a shame. As one of the younger fresher fighters in this tournament it is imperative that he takes it to the opposition and wins convincingly especially with the belts involved.. . . . . imo

Very talented, phenomenal fighter. But lacks the confidence in his ability to survive that late rounds. Seems to have stamina issues. Chin might be questionable. If he had that know one but Sugar Ray Robinson would beat him.

very talented. :box:

thought he'd beat froch fairly convincingly.

even though i had him winning he was disappointing on the night.

good to see him bounce back with an excellent win.

definitely capable of winning the whole thing.

I thought he was impressive for 10 rounds against Abrahams and with a less cagey defense minded fighter, he may have got a stoppage earlier. Definently world class offense and movement maybe not heart though. Warmed up to him in the fight against Abraham until round 11 that is. Why he didnt fight like that against Froch is beyond me.

p.s I voted I am not sure in the poll :p

he looked great against abraham but we'll never know if he could have held it all together. i think he's a fighter always at risk of imploding. abraham is very short for a super middle and obviously that was avery good fight for a lanky southpaw to show off in.

against the tall froch he looked petrified and tried every negative tactic in the book, throwing himself on the floor in particular, in a desperate bid not to get hit. froch outmanned him that night. if dirrell had boxed assertively (not aggressively - not not be passive does not mean to stand and trade) he would have given froch enough opportunities to land good shots.

dirrell has the talent but lacks the mental toughness to win the super 6. i think the man's a joke. it's all happened too early for him (not to say he'd ever be ready) and he'll try and spoil the super 6 in every fight.

Im really not his biggest fan, but he does has a lot of talent but no heart. Imo, if he was a bit more positive against Froch, he would have won.
When i was at the fight, he was so annoying to watch. Clinching all the time. It was so frustrating to watch.
