Anthony Mundine,Garth Wood in December

Post by ryan711 »

And we can reveal the pair have finally pencilled in a December date for their big super middleweight fight.

Wood's new manager Mike Karigiannis - the former Ticketek chairman who was also the late Kerry Packer's financial adviser - said the former Rabbitohs and Tigers hooker was progressing well from a broken right hand.

"We've been talking to Team Mundine about a fight in Sydney in December," Karigiannis said.

"Garth will probably look to have three or four fights before Mundine."

Bullsh't.

Why are they saying former "hooker"? The guy played wing or fullback.

Our man from the media is trying to toughen up the image of Garth by calling him a "hooker". Everyone knows that the
front row is the cauldron, the foundation for all hard football. The front row is noted for their power and good looks, like no necks, battered ears, and S-shaped noses. Such players are noted for their intelligence and longevity well into their forties.

By sexing up Garth's true playing positions when he played NRL, the scribe knew that as a winger/fullback, Garth might as well be from Mars. Wingers/fullbacks are allegedly fast with excellent striking ability. They are supposed to score lots of trys, catch the high ball, and counter attack with flair. But the stark reality (well understood by the forwards) is that the fullback and wingers prance and preen more than the inside backs. They don't get dirty and are always playing with their hair and pulling on their collars. In fact their sexual orientation has been called into question on numerous occasions.

But the man he is supposed (and it is a big supposition) to fight, one Mundine the younger was a 5/8 and centre in his NRL days. It was rumored that Mundine had the best vision, hands, kicking ability, and overall tactical decision making ability in the side (well that is what he said anyway). But his forwards never understood or trusted him. The hard-working pack generally expected and anticipated a knock-on from Mundine so they could have the pleasure of another scrum. Mundine also claimed to be a centre who was a deadly tackler, with strong running instincts and safe hands. But he went missing in action so much that the forwards appreciated the many rests he provided from behind their own try-line whilst a shot a goal was being taken.

According to South Sydney's records Woods played 22 first grade games and over 100 grade games for the Rabbitohs between 1995 and 2005.

By the look of him he would have been small compared to most of the wingers now playing. Hookers used to be important, now that the halfback is allowed to put the ball at the lock forward's feet it is a good place to hide your goal kicker.

of course. I like sports that involve skill. Not pick up the ball, run 4m get tackled....do it again, do it again untill you get to 6 attempts, then let the other teams have a crack..........
