Who's Hoping Jones gets a good hiding??
For me Roy Jones is well beyond the Spent Label, this fight v the aging B-Hop is not doing any good for the image of the sport at all.
Admittedly I'll watch this freak-show, but with Jones looking to leech more millions from the sport we love before retirement - I'm hoping B-Hop puts an end to him, also hangs his gloves up & departs with a little respect intact also.
Thoughts??

id like to see jo0nes lose a competitive fight then call it a day cant see either of them happening tho
Re: Who's Hoping Jones gets a good hiding??
Jones doesnt know the meaning of the word "retire", but I like just about everyone else just wishes that he would hang his gloves up. I think the best way would be if he stinks the joint out & no one would touch him with a barge pole anymore.
Re: Who's Hoping Jones gets a good hiding??
His humiliation at the hands of the limited Danny Green should have been enough to make him retire but he's done nothing but bitch about the defeat and how it's all a conspiracy, he'll still carry on regardless of the result against Hopkins.
Re: Who's Hoping Jones gets a good hiding??
If this is the case surely to god the PPV money wont be there anymore, will it?banjo wrote:His humiliation at the hands of the limited Danny Green should have been enough to make him retire but he's done nothing but bitch about the defeat and how it's all a conspiracy, he'll still carry on regardless of the result against Hopkins.

Jones is my fav fighter of all time but I wish he'd just walk away.
Hopkins will embarrass him tomorrow.

Will Jones definately get knocked out? I aint so sure, Hopkins hardly hits hard does he. Wouldn't suprise me at all if Jones wins, because his fitness and power may be gone but Hopkins fights at a slow pace, holding and infighting most of the time.

Golden Boy are milking HBO with all their efforts before the renegotiation commences and they have to scramble for fight dates like all the other promoters.
Now Oscar is no longer boxing on, they have no reason to keep him and his promotional company happy. Once upon a time he brought HBO huge sums into their coffers, now he is history hopefully it will allow meaningful fights to proceed.

Its terrible to see Jones going on but it could actually be a close fight where Bernards style may suit Jones, I cant see Hopkins having the power to take Jones out and as both simply cant fight for 3 minutes every round this fight will come down to cat and mouse affair with both fighters picking there moments during each round.
I think Jones at 11/2 to win on points on PaddyPower is worth a small bet

Who cares about the image of the sport? Its a good fight with exitement surrounding it. Where you gonna watch it anyway, not on TV in UK?Manc_Red wrote:not doing any good for the image of the sport at all.

Re: Who's Hoping Jones gets a good hiding??
Seconded. He may have got stopped by Green but in the fight before he looked very quick. Yeah ok it was against Jeff Lacy but I think Hopkins might struggle with the speed a bit at times. If Hopkins manages to KO Jones I will be very suprised as I don't think he hits hard at all anymore, he aint stopped anyone since De La Hoya.dve3333 wrote:Its terrible to see Jones going on but it could actually be a close fight where Bernards style may suit Jones, I cant see Hopkins having the power to take Jones out and as both simply cant fight for 3 minutes every round this fight will come down to cat and mouse affair with both fighters picking there moments during each round.

Hope BHop gets the better of him, after all; Bhop has never failed a drug test.

IMO, there is suspicion over BHOP and roids, given his age and athetism.
Re: Who's Hoping Jones gets a good hiding??
I think Roy Jones is hell bent on destroying as much of his credability as he can, its a real shame to watch such a boxing great fall from the height he has. Had he retired on the back of beating Ruiz for the WBA heavyweight title back in 2003 he'd have been forever regarded as one of the greats of our sport.
I am convinced he cannot/will not beat Hopkins, but i do hope he can do himself some sort of justice in the fight, i.e. not get KO'd and at least win a few rounds.

Re: Who's Hoping Jones gets a good hiding??
I simply can't Jones winning and sadly, nor can I see him do the right thing and retire...
He is always slabbering to the media about how he must fight and that is all he can and will do... I appreciate the fact that Boxing is his life but surely he can do something more productive than continue to tarnish his legacy and perhaps more worringly, his health.
I also hope he does fine against Hopkins but I simply see no chance of him winning.

I think my feelings about this freak show can be construed from the fact that the combined ages of the two participants is nearly the same as that of Lou Duva, who was in the corner when Tiglath-Pileser I defeated Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon on a split decision.

Re: Who's Hoping Jones gets a good hiding??
I couldn't really care how exactly Jones loses. I'll watch it though to my shame.
I've read that Jones Jr is only fighting on for the money and what supports that is that apparently Jones may not get anything because after losing to Green the contract was renogiated and Hopkins gets the first $3.5M and Jones gets the next $3.5M if it is generated but there are real doubts if it will produce the $3.5M in total.
None of that may be true of course.
