That was my initial opinion too, but then he started talking about going to heavyweight. Jumping two divisions at the age of 45 seems kind of crazy to me. I think you need a little help to do that.caffrey wrote:nah i cant see it,if he was a brawler he have been finished years ago, just looks after himself in and out the ringJab and Move wrote:IMO, there is suspicion over BHOP and roids, given his age and athetism.
Paulie Malignaggi says 7/10 of the heavier weights are juicing.

Well if super-guido Malignaggi says so, it must be true.
I have real doubts that Hopkins would put any foreign substances in his body - he seems very concerned about his physical health.

Prison helps to maintain you,as well, its a fact.He is also unbelievbly strict with his regieme, diet, lifestyle. He is just a once in a generation freak.Nobody said the Old Mongoose was on the gear did they?In this day and age, virtually every super-achiever is guilty until proven innocent.Shame, but a sign of the times
Re: Who's Hoping Jones gets a good hiding??
I fully agree with that, I doubt for sure he goes down the Ricky Hatton route after a fight & goes on mad benders for months either, I'd be amazed if it ever came out he's ever juiced.jamesmcdonnell wrote:Well if super-guido Malignaggi says so, it must be true.

But surely its not normal to plan on jumping from LHW to HW for a HW world title at the age of 45?
Re: Who's Hoping Jones gets a good hiding??
I hope that RJJ kicks the everlasting dogcrapmouit of Hopkins.
Hopkins is looking to get a victory against a well past it RJJ - if RJJ betas him then Hopkins will throw himself off a bridge.....after complaining about it for months.
I hope for a RJJ KO WIN!

Terrible fight, this!! I won't be watching. I can't see anything other than Hopkins knocking him out.Best case for Jones is losing wildly on points, but he is easy to hit and can no longer take a punch. It grieves me that he lost to a fighter the level of Danny Green.

What a dumbass comment. Hopkins was trying to get a rematch with Jones for years, but Jones wasn't interested and demanded purses he knew Hopkins would not accept.Small Axe wrote:I hope that RJJ kicks the everlasting dogcrapmouit of Hopkins.

I doubt you will get our wish anyway, the most likely outcome is Hopkins batters him senseless, Jones cannot hold a shot any more. If Jones Jr is stupid enough to continue fighting on, then more fool him because he is clearly done.
Re: Who's Hoping Jones gets a good hiding??
after hopkins beat trinidad, everyone wanted to see jones-hopkins 2. but hopkins would not risk going up 2 weights to fight jones. jones was the man at the time and hopkins just wouldn't take the purse split. jones wanted something like 60-40. this was when hopkins was with don king. i believe the excuse was that with king's split as a promoter being big, hopkins was just going to fight his mandos till the contract expired.
a year or two after this fight didn't happen, then we had the hopkins-toney at cruiserweight fiasco. another top opponent, another up in weight fight that didn't happen.
hopkins wasn't taking any risks IMO.
RJJ is right. hopkins is bottom feeding. jones - so close yet so far - saying that hopkins wants to knock out a guy that is finished. a guy that he thinks is finished.

Boxing is only really coming back onto the channel, so I'd be weary of subscribing to Setanta - 3pm EPL is on it, which is a big draw - bit of luck we get more Boxing on it, especially from a across the pond.Jab and Move wrote:Thanks mate. Re: Who's Hoping Jones gets a good hiding??
Based on their performances against Calzaghe, Hopkins has much more in the tank. Roy's going to be slurring if he keeps carrying on like this. Hopkins' style lends itself to a longer career whereas Jones' stock in trade was his athleticism and speed and amazing reflexes. I just prey Hopkins doesn't give him a prolonged beating.
Sheika and Lacy were perfect fights for Roy at this stage of his career, stationery targets themselves who were too slow to cope with Jones' handspeed which is still very good.
Offensively Jones is still excellent, he's just not any good at coping with what comes back at him and if Hopkins is on the money for this fight it could be nasty. Danny Green's a big lump with good power whereas B-Hop's more of a wear-you down type.
Obviously this means Jones will put on a masterclass and box Hopkins' ears off.
It's an intriguing fight purely because of the names but it's 10 years too late and rather sad that they're doing it but they're big boys who obviously can't just give it up. Be sad to see Roy slurring along in his mid-40s after an excellent career. At his peak he was unstoppable.

You really think that? I recall Jones offering Hopkins $3M and an GUARANTEE that he would not make more than $2M in the rubber match ( if there was 1) - RJJ was the KING and was messing with Hopkins. Hopkins did not take the deal but he should have, just like Zab Judah taking the $50K to fight Spinks. Speculate to accumulate...you get my drift!
Hopkins should have said NO TO THIS FIGHT - but he admitted RJJ has slowed down now..
I hope RJJ puts on a clinic! He might blose but I want him to win.
Hopkins is jealous of RJJ........
Re: Who's Hoping Jones gets a good hiding??
If Tyson was fighting I'd still watch - I know it aint right that this fight is on now at their age.
There is a danger that Jones could be left slurring like Wocky (lol), I do hope its a fight that has a couple of moments that rolls back the years for Jones - I don't however see this happening tonight, I see the guy been retired by BHop & I only hope that permanent damage is not done.
I'm watching it 4 free tonight on satellite - Its a fight that I'd never pay for - not a chance.

Lets not lose the run of ourselves here, this fight is possible Jones last PPV in the states & my view is that Hopkins is accommodating Jones.Small Axe wrote:jamesmcdonnell wrote:Small Axe wrote:Hopkins is jealous of RJJ........

The shine on Jones career is not sparkling now due to his greed when he should have been retired 3 years ago.
Re: Who's Hoping Jones gets a good hiding??
Many people have mentioned about Hopkins and juice.
I remember reading an article about 6 years ago, the writer had the pleasure of dining with Hopkins, he said Hopkins asked for some pasta with chicken cooked in a red wine sauce, to be re-cooked without the red wine, the writer summed up, that is why is so great - he's a total pro and takes everything seriously.
I remember when he moved up from middle - I'm sure that I read he runs approx 20 miles either every day, or every other day, he simply cut down on his roadwork and went up a few weights naturally...

Hop[kins may have aged better, but RJJ has a better CV and will go down in history as the better PRIME fighter than Hopkins.Manc_Red wrote:The tides have turned these days RJJ, Hopkins will end Jones's career tonight in my opinion.Small Axe wrote:???Manc_Red wrote: Lets not lose the run of ourselves here, this fight is possible Jones last PPV in the states & my view is that Hopkins is accommodating Jones.

Re: Who's Hoping Jones gets a good hiding??
For me. Roy Jones jr. is one of the best boxers/fighters ever. I would put him top of any middle/s-middle list. I certainly could not see any boxer past or present beating a prime Jones at any of those weights.
Too many people are judging him on his performances after his Ruiz fight.
Its very sad that he feels the need to accomplish something now to make up for the last few years defeats.
