An excellent intelligent boxing related response from a person who knows so much about the sport he could possibly write that knowledge on his shrivelled up hamster sized b*llocks.

But I have to agree with Smigga - I think Carl Dilks is a number of fights off from fighting him - with regards to who would win that fight - naturally my heart says I would like the "ex squaddie" Dilks to prevail - however the head says Smith would win that fight at this stage - although I confess to have not seen too much of Dilks in the professional ranks.

The local rivalry and the banter on here suggests to me if the Magee/Smith fight cannot be made then logic says - why not get fights on involving Groves/Dilks/Quigley/Smith and perhaps Tony Dodson - any fights involving them lot would shift a lot of tickets.

I honestly think Magee/Smith has to be made for the good of that particular division - whether anyone else agrees or not - it is them 2 fighters who have earned their shots - with all that said I honestly believe Magee will prove to be the Number 1 - but its exciting times and it has to be said there are some nice paydays ahead for those in the Super Middleweight division.

In another 6 months you then have to bring Degale into the equation on the condition he continues his progression.
Spud, you make good posts when you keep your bitterness at bay!

I agree with a lot of this, 'spesh the bit about Degale getting in the mix.

Regarding Dilks and Smigga, at this stage i'd give it to Paul. The Dilks that beat Adamu loses against the recent Paul Smith. I believe Smith would get in and rough Carl up, and even though Carl is a good back foot figher, the pressure from Smith will be relentless and a lot more effective than that of Adamu.

Carl, i think you have a chance if you throw more shots. Your best bet is trying to frustrate Smigga, keeping him at bay if you can, because if it went to the scorecards and it was quite a scrappy fight, you'd have to favour the Champ.

...my opinion.

Paul Smith Jr. Is overdue his shot at the European title which he stands a great chance of winning and from then on in he is marking time at a world title shot - being EBU champion guarantees you a top 10 ranking with the WBC so in essence - if he beats Magee (and he certainly stands a good chance) he becomes a world title contender, his record, experience and his background says that whatever happens from now on in if he gets his shot at Magee - he's ready.

Dilks at 13-2 and very unlucky not to be 15-0 is not ready for Smith yet nor would he be able to step up to that level of class at this moment in time and take on Magee if he were to beat Smith in any proposed match up. Give Carl Dilks another 18 months and he certainly will be - where will Paul Smith be by then? Fighting for or holding one of the the world title belts or he should be - I think Paul Smith should be fighting Howard Eastman if he beats Magee which would show where he is in regards depth of class.

Carl Dilks is up there domestically and could move on to bigger things whereas Smith has advanced past domestic class a long time ago - he needs to be fighting world class opposition.

Just my take on it. :TU:

I like both guys but have to say, Smigga's right. Smigga's proved himself at domestic level and should be on the up now. Showed great belief in his last fight and never seemed to doubt himself, even when he was cut to shreds.

Gotta be said that Paul is ahead of this level and if he fought Dilks it wouldn't go far imo! Carl ain't suited to serious punchers!! Paul is a serious puncher a super middleweight!! I think Smig Vs Magee should be next!! Paul can do a number on Magee, Paul ain't no weight drained Lardsen!! I think Paul has more than proved himself in his last 2 fights!! NO ONE can question him about being a super middleweight and NO ONE can question his heart, fitness, sacrifice or determination!! The lad went to hell and back with them cuts against Dodson he really did!! I've never seen so much blood in my whole life!! He showed bottle beyond the call of duty!! Anyone who can't admire that doesn't know the sport!! Paul can now go on to become a huge attraction in Liverpool and topping European bills at the echo arena will only help that cause!!

Retired? First I have heard about it? He fought less than 6 months ago.

Shot? I wouldn't say that at all - he isn't world class anymore but would be a good test for Paul Smith Jr.

I've watched him, sparred with him and trained with him from when I was young so think my opinion is pretty accurate. If he don't look for it then he's a serious puncher!! When he looks for it though it never works just I have found out myself over the years!!

Bomber, you ever had a go on one of those punch machines ye' get in takeaways? If so, what did you get?

I scraped it bladdered and got a massive 10, whereas everyone else was getting 800-900.

Really respected guys like Billy Graham and Buddy McGirt always talk about his power.Im not doubting them, but have lost a few quid when backing him to win inside the distance

id say smith certainly has a dig & is most defenetley a hurtfull puncher, but he aint no banger they are extremly rare wayne alexander, gary locket, richard evatt, tony bellew show stopping punchers.
smith had dodson going a few times in the fight but couldnt follow up, he certainly tries too hard for the home runs.
on the pads & bags mean nothing ive seen plenty who look powerfull on the bag with decent force & ive seen noted punchers not stand out one bit.

What gets frustrating, as a fan, is watching Smith throwing beautiful combinations, but only doing so sparingly.

He's got some lovely shots, but to me he doesn't let them flow. A bit like someone in a street fight, pumped with adrenaline and hesitant to box and instead opts for the finishing/power shot.

Just because fights go the distance doesn't mean someone can't punch, dean Phillips, Geoff McReesh, Paul Welsey, minisculee stoppage percentages but big bangers... look at Jon Thaxton. Paul is strong as fornicate you can see it if you look closely on Sky. Thats why opponents are prob so keen to hold.

I put that down to sloppiness having fought euro bum after euro bum while been made to wait too long for a title shot. Like he's fighting from memory, hopefully these bigger fights will see him regain some of the dynamicness he displayed on the way up.

I'm a big fan of his attitude and he come across dead well on here. But as a fighter he's not performing as perhaps he could. Not sure why- its no obvious from the fights i've seen. Its got to be either lack of sparring or flatness caused by years of demotivating matches.

he's been winning ugly, but is now in really competitive matches where he doesnt get his own way & seems disgruntled somewhat by this as there is plenty of thrustration in his work, also he's under big pressure like a football sighning everyone expects big things of & the bar maybe too high or he under performs due to it, you cant knock him for effort & getting stuck in he just needs to relax massively & like someone posted earlier he has all the nice shots to his armour its just putting it to practice & possibly a bit more belief in himself.

I respect every pro,im just saying, the real bangers, like Graham and McGirt claim Smith to be,would be stopping the lads he's going the distance with.I rate Paul,i just think with the way his trainers go on,we should be getting some highlight reel clips
