Poll. Is Haye the saviour of the heavyweight division?

Post by tonyevs »

As the title says.

Has David Haye, in his last two title fights convinced you he is the saviour of the once great heavyweight division?

I think not. For me, he is now too much of a counter-puncher to be exciting.

Win or lose against either of the Klitschko's he will still adding some much needed entertainment to the division. He has speed and power enough to hurt anyone out there and can also be caught himself. The fight with Ruiz was pretty exciting, especially when you look back at some of the fights Ruiz has been involved in over the years. He might not be the saviour of the Heavy-weight division, but he'll give everyone plenty to talk about until one turns up.

He has got us questioning this and that - he has the media doing the same - yep he has brought excitement.

He is one of them fighters who could just as likely lose as he could win - and that alone will earn him a lot of money.

Definately not.........

The division can't be saved by one man alone, it's lacking quality full stop. You need maybe 5 or 6 fighters of equal calibre and attitude to David Haye and there simply is'nt anybody. Times have changed and it's no longer the premier division in boxing. The qudos, status and quality are now in the smaller divisions, prticularly the welterweight division.

The other reason is that Haye won't be around very long. If he beats the Klits, then he will retire. I feel that Haye, whilst a decent tonic to the heavyweight division at the moment, in time, he will just be a footnote in the history of heavyweight boxing and won't be remembered.

Got to agree.

David Haye has hit the division at the right time for him to make a bucket load of cash - thats about it.

I am not downing his achievement - because I think he has done fabuously well for himself - and British Boxing needs him at the moment.

Haye can certainly give the Heavyweight division an upturn in its fortunes because he brings all the attributes to do so. Exciting style, charasmatic, of course he can if he keeps getting the wins.

Haye could make the devision interesting, but I feel its not cause of his charisma, style and power but cause of his chin, size and stamina.

I completely agree with the comments about taking two to tango. Ali was fantastic but the devision was so exciting at the time cause of the other fighters around him also. Tyson was different, but then he also had some names making comebacks etc (more similar to when Jack Johnson was champ). He had great fighters like Holmes and Spinks bringing intrique and from 1988 onwards Holyfield was mentioned in most interviews. Even that pretty terrible period was much much better than today. Could you imagine Pinklon Thomas vs Eddie Chambers!

The mid/late 90's era was excellent, even though at one stage we had some terrible belt holders. The likes of Holyfield, Tyson, Lewis, Bowe and Moorer provided some good arguements and some great fights. You also had the intrigue of Foreman and Holmes, the loose cannon that was McCall, decent hardmen like Mercer and Witherspoon, aswell as Bruno, Tucker, Akinwande, Schultz, and a great white hope in Morrison. All of whom would probably be favoured to beat Haye on their day.

Now outside of the Klitchsko's and Haye - the standard seems to be poor. However, cause Haye is a vulnerable bulked up cruiser with questionable stamina - I think we will see alot of fighters come out of the woodwork. Probably not offering anything, but will add an "intrigue" factor.

I can see the following fighters targeting Haye - Hopkins, Adameck, Tua, Holyfield, Solis, Toney - not a who's who.... but more marketable that the guys the Klitchsko's are fighting and with Haye its that unpredicablility factor.

No, he's not. He wants to retire next year. We want high quality heavyweight fights. That requires more than 1 entertaining boxer.

Do you now find David haye as exciting?
Not once did I get that glow of anticipation from the Ruiz fight. Some fights get the blood pumping as they walk to the ring because of the anticipation .. sadly, I didn`t get that feeling last time out.

Maybe it was the opponent? .. maybe it was the realization that the Heavyweight haye doesn`t generate the excitement the cruiserweight Haye previously did??
Either way, after the Valuev and Ruiz fight I still don`t see a reason to get excited about a David Haye fight.
