TIM WITHERSPOON v JUMBO CUMMINGS

Post by overhand_right »

Was this fight televised? Does anybody have any info/recollections whatsoever?????

This was Tims first fight back after defeating Larry Holmes a few months previously and being robbed of the crown.

The fight with Jumbo was in Vegas at the Dunes, on the same card as Wilfredo Benitez vs Mustafo Hamsho. Surely thismust have been on TV?

I've never ever ehard any mention or details of the fight, or seen it on any traders list?

Any info?

Always been curious about this fight as well. Hamsho vs Benitez was televised by ABC so there must be a tape in existence somewhere.

I checked out Ring Magazine's report for the fight and added some info that was missing on our database (It was a UD, Jumbo's weight and the fact that he was down on the second)

I can't help I'm afraid, but the idea of those two in the ring together... It'd be like two whales mating in the clinches.

Wasn't Witherspoon almost fit for the Holmes fight? Was it after he lost the close decision that he began to balloon?
