David Haye wants four more fights before retiring
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/boxing/8603248.stm
Here's a snippet that illustrates why we all should support him to the hilt:
"Money doesn't really enter my head in terms of boxing," Haye told BBC Sport.
"All I focus on is being the best boxer I can be. Money is not the reason I want to fight the Klitschko brothers, I want to prove I am the best. By beating them money will follow but for me it's all about the legacy and the glory."
Haye, who has only lost once in 25 fights, added that he hoped to be known as the best British boxer of his generation and as "the man that fought the best possible guys in a short space of time and who always gave value for money."

Re: David Haye wants four more fights before retiring
There are only 3 or 4 fights that are worth staying on in, in the Heavyweights. If he beats the Klitschko's I would like him to fight Povetkin and then Solis, but I cant see him beating the Klitschko's
Re: David Haye wants four more fights before retiring
As said. There aren`t that money fights out there anyway.
Its too early to say if what he says regarding money and reputation is true. Lets see who he fights next before deciding that. But if its Audley next then we know he is talking through his arse

Re: David Haye wants four more fights before retiring
I think Povetkin could also give Haye some serious trouble with his work-rate and combination punching. Would be a great fight.alexpaterson wrote:There are only 3 or 4 fights that are worth staying on in, in the Heavyweights. Re: David Haye wants four more fights before retiring
i agree about povetkin but he's on the backburner until teddy atlas is happy.
if adamek beats arreola this month, this will be a good opportunity, and a good challenge. adamek-arreola is on HBO, and money certainly does come into it for david haye. obviously if adamek emerges with a win over a top 10 heavy, and with his credentials as A light heavy champ and THE cruiser champ, then this qualifies as a challenge also. haye has recently been praising adamek...
i think they're both as good as each other but haye carries the 220-ish pounds much better. this would be a good fight if he can't get a klitschko. it would allow 2 ruiserweight standouts to make a heck of a lot more money that they ever would have at 200-pounds.

Re: David Haye wants four more fights before retiring
Haye did mention in a previous interview that he is looking to retire at the end of 2011. He'll can probably fit in three fights at the most in this time.
The climax of which will probably be a fight with Vitali in an O2 arena; either in London or Germany.

Is Haye aware that there was Lenox Lewis before him and that Lenox arguably beat the best?

He didnt say he was better than Lennox or wanted to be recognised as being better than Lennox though. Infact he says he would never be able to match Lennox's achievements!Raff The Frenchman wrote:Is Haye aware that there was Lenox Lewis before him and that Lenox arguably beat the best?

Actually take the time to read the linked story and you'll see why that was a pointless post.Raff The Frenchman wrote:Is Haye aware that there was Lenox Lewis before him and that Lenox arguably beat the best?

Re: David Haye wants four more fights before retiring
Do you all mean the Canadian Lennox Lewis?
Re: David Haye wants four more fights before retiring
Haye always gets my full support, he's in it for the glory and thats all one can ever hope for in any pro athlete. Its the Mayweather's and Klitshcko's of this world that give boxing a black eye, they're pick and choose style is ruining our sport.
If Haye beats either of the Klitschko's in his next fight, he'd be right to retire straight away IMO. He's vulnerable up at heavyweight and i'm sure its just a matter of time before he looses. He looked heavy on Saturday night and was blowing hard from the get-go, i thought he looked in far better shape against Barrett & Valuev. Perhaps comming in at 222lbs was a few pounds to many?

Re: David Haye wants four more fights before retiring
The K brothers are the summit and Haye will definatley fight one of them before he calls it quits.
No one else out there for him. Solis? He can punch but then again, so can most HW's. He wont beat the K brothers or Haye, for that matter. Povetkin? He has a bit of potential, but again, cant see him beating these guys. Peter? Maybe, he can do something. Adamek? Not convinced by him, and imo, he wont beat the champs.
Then you got the usual suspects, Johnson, Arreola, Chambers, Estrada etc....and they ain't going anywhere. Chambers is best of the rest, despite his pathetic showing last time out.

Dont write off Adamek, not that i think the fight will happen.Great workrate and excellent chin,in fact,Paul Brigg's was a murderous puncher and he never shifted him(nearly did).Yes,it was a lighter weight, but shows Adamek's balls, something Haye will struggle with, when combined with a high workrate.I really wouldnt fancy the fight for Haye.
Re: David Haye wants four more fights before retiring
The only 2 fights out there for him in my opinion are the Klitschko's, Wlad first then Vitali. If he beat them both he could rightfully retire as the best of his generation. Okay, it's not been a great generation for heavy's but you can only beat what is out there and the Klitschko's are undoubtedly the rulers and have been for a few years.
A fight against Wlad in October/November and then Vitali at Wembley next Summer would be quality!

Arreola, never has a man with such big tits been so well named.

Re: David Haye wants four more fights before retiring
good point. adamek showed an inhuman pain threshold vs paul briggs. the rock hard new zealander was hitting him with the most accurate, nastiest power shots i've seen in a light heavyweight fight in many years. in both of their fights.mickey1975 wrote:Dont write off Adamek, not that i think the fight will happen.Great workrate and excellent chin,in fact,Paul Brigg's was a murderous puncher and he never shifted him(nearly did).Yes,it was a lighter weight, but shows Adamek's balls, something Haye will struggle with, when combined with a high workrate.I really wouldnt fancy the fight for Haye.
i think adamek CAn get the haye fight. if he beats arreola, it's on HBO boxing after dark, which will upgrade adamek potentially to a HBO championship boxing main event. haye did say he could fight adamek if the pole brings US or UK television money in. recently haye was quoted as saying adamek's "a great fighter" who "could be knocking on the door."
obviously adamek has to beat a big heavyweight in arreola, first.

Re: David Haye wants four more fights before retiring
If Haye wants 3 or 4 bouts left before retiring.... hes not giving himself alot of time to build up a 'Legend Status'. Even if he wins them all, and from a best case scenario..... unifies the division... he'll say thankyou and goodnight without stringing any defences together.
Lennox made 5 defences of the Undisputed Title.... if Haye wants to build the type of legacy Lennox has, he has to build up time and defences with the titles.
I know no one should go on forever, but at 31 he wouldnt be at an age yet where he is a shot fighter

Re: David Haye wants four more fights before retiring
Lennox Lewis although the best, is not considered the biggest british champion by the public. Frank Bruno is the most loved heavyweight. Lennox's gold medal for canada meant that many dont consider him to be a british champ, me included.Raff The Frenchman wrote:Is Haye aware that there was Lenox Lewis before him and that Lenox arguably beat the best?
Lots of brits dont agree but most of those are boxing fans. Lewis was bigger outside britain than he was in britain!
Re: David Haye wants four more fights before retiring
David has woken up the Heavyweight division We should all be proud he is British and get behind him I thought he was great Sat and a new star was born Its about time we had another British fighter selling 20,000 tickets Great for British boxing Keep up the good work Team Hayemaker
