Herbie in Cruiserweight Prizefighter.

Post by skelp »

Former WBO Hvy Champ, Herbie Hide in reportedly in the running for the Cruiserweight Prizefighter Tournament; after his WBC Cruiser World Title Fight fell through. He should win this without much trouble.

Any whispers on who else could be contending the tourney?

Anyone not think this is slightly dangerous?

Herbie is a world class puncher who held a title at heavyweight and now he will be lining up against complete novices if the likes of Wayne Brooks and Hari Miles enter.

Would the BBBC condone this practice in a standard fight?????

There are rumours that this guy http://boxrec.com/list_bouts.php?human_ ... &cat=boxer could be entering but at this stage it's only Chinese whispers.

Hide should walk this. Brooks and Miles should only be reserves.

No way will he be in there

Wouldnt pay enough and I think the handlers of the other guys would give it a wide berth

It was confirmed in this morning's press mate.

I'm hoping he swerves it.

It's getting crazy this tournament.. If he does go in it I wouldn't be surprised if he got beat!! How is a man who has been world heavyweight champion supposed to get up for fighting a guyy over 3 rounds!! It's crazy! :shame:

well he's been fighting nobodies in germany for years and managed to get up for those fights.
Prizefighter would put him back in the limelight in the UK and he probably wouldnt need to get up to beat some of those competing.

Would they have condoned Danny Williams v Carl Baker outside of the tournament? Look at what happened there...

From headlining bills for the wbo heavyweight title for big purses against riddick bowe, vitali klitschko, tony tucker etc to prizefighter
It would be a real shame for him to lose his high ranking position with the wbc because he got banged out in prizefighter and there is always a chance that can happen with herbie.

Is it only a matter of time before we see the likes of Junior Witter in Prizefighter?

@earsjohn. Point well made about Williams v Baker

I can see where ya going with ya post Tommy but there are lot of differences good man.

Hide is a concussive puncher and has a valuable position with the WBC. Hari Miles is an untested novice who has been floored by area level opposition.

Danny Williams has been on the slide dramatically for a long time and was never considered much more then British class.

totally agree, even tho Williams was on the slide, i still expected him to beat baker in 3 rounds...
Dont know the line up,but if Hide is in it would u risk a Novice with him??...like i say easy 32k for him....wots the best best they could put in(no disrespect to the others)dolan(great Am) Mckenzenie again??????

Wouldn't be the biggest surprise if he lost in this. He hasn't looked much good for a while now, and if he just comes out swinging with his eyes on stalks like he sometimes (often?) does, he has the potential to be outboxed or even KO'd.

I know different levels, etc, but as others have said, who'd have thought Baker would beat Williams? And how about Arron beating Pryce?

The combination of Hide being significantly past his best, plus the vagaries the tournament format throws up, plus the possibility/probability of Hide being complacent, makes him a very shaky favourite for me.
