Cracking atmosphere, with most of the Welsh supporters together on the stage side really adding to it. Thankfully, even when a group of Jones supporters were singing in the bar between fights and being answered back by the Dann supporters, it never felt like it was going to kick off. I'd be amazed if some bell-ends didn't start something on Union Street later, but that's life.

Agree with you Kev that Jones looked well out of his depth in there. Shame really, because I was hoping for a more competative fight, although the result was what I was looking for. I thought Guthrie looked tidy when he stuck behind the jab, but allowed himself to get hit and drawn in to a fight too much. I scored it the same as the ref.

Good result for Dann, did not expect it to be as one sided as that. Hope Jones can comeback - I think now might be the time for Dann to shine, looks to be thriving as a champion.

Agree with you Stu, the last two fights seem to have seen him blossom into a very tidy British Champ.

Lets hope that TV cottons onto this soon - would be nice to see these contests (see also Michael Hunter).

Sky won't screen a traditional British title fight - but will screen Steve Foster fighting for the WBU featherweight title next week in Manchester against an obscure Colombian.
Foster pulled out of a British title eliminator to be taken down the safe WBU route and is rewarded with TV coverage.

Wonder if the occasion got to Jones. Looking at his record he's never been in that sort of atmosphere - that, coupled with him not being as good as Dann anyway (allegedly) would have really reduced his chances to rock bottom. Kinda sucks to take such a step up in that sort of environment. I think a competitive fight on an undercard, in a neutral venue (when few are around who give a feck) is the best place to bridge the gap from where Jones was before, to during, last night. But Jones doesn't have 500 chav mates so he can't choose these things. Just the way it goes really.

Big Welsh support there. Over 100 at least. There were about 40 singing in the bar at one point, when the bulk of the rest of the Welsh fans were still in the stands. Maybe as many as 150 overall, probably a few less. Regardless, if he sells tickets like that, he'll get second chances, much as Scott has done after taking a huge step up when the opportunity presented itself against Eastman. Dann has said that just being in that position, despite it coming far too early, taught him a lot. If Jones can learn as much as Scott seems to have, he'll do alright.

And Manos, there was no alledgedly about it. Jones may develop into a fine fighter, but on Friday he was shellacked by the much better man, just like Scott was back in April '03.

One of the resons Boxing has such problems with its image is that Sky don't show the good fights. They seem to prefer selling a fight on a "world title" rather than showing the quality fights. Over protected members of the Warren stable make the sport look dull and pradictible.

Thanks for the crowd estimates, mickeybeard, I had no idea he'd pull nearly 150 (500 was an exaggeration). And I agree that that's enough to get him a second chance. I had presumed he would only take 30~ fans with him because I read he worked 12 hour days on a farm and trained at night - doesn't leave much time for socializing. Regardless, from what you say (and in Kev's report on BBN) they were on different levels. The annoying thing is that boxing fans like me can't judge for ourselves how good Dann is... someone needs to get him on the telly, he's British Middleweight champ and beaten two unbeaten fighters in a row for funks sake!

Dann's definitely appears to going for that Lonsdale belt for keeps.

Next up on April 29th he defends against Andy Halder.

excellent i like scott, notice Jamie has been posting occasionally, Jamie if you read this mate, what nerws on tv coverage for Scott. He is one of our best kept secrets in my view. Defo euro champ material iuf he keeps imrpoving.
I think howard was just too early, wouldnt mind seeing a rematch to be honest. Scott can obviously dig dropping H in the first as I recall.

Yes it is a shame, and really can you blame the fighters. They know that the words 'world title' will mean TV interest, even if it's the bullshit WBU, WBF or IBO titles which are becoming commonplace over here.

I love the argument about how 'champions' make belts, not the other way around. Sure, that may be true, but challengers make champions, and if the organisations rankings are filled with fornicating no hopers, then it's difficult to really impress.

He did make Howard touch down a glove, but the Ref didn't call it a knockdown. Dann definetly shook Howard up though, might haver been Eastman underestimating his opponents power

J,

No news regarding any television coverage. Naturally I don't want to get into a discussion on what Sky should show but I do feel that any British Title fight deserves TV coverage. Michael Hunter is in the same boat. We took Frankie De Milo up to Hartlepool a few years ago; Hunter has terrific support and is a popular sporting figure up there. This is exactly the same down in Plymouth with Scott. Scott's last 2 title fights were against unbeaten opposition which usually makes for a good fight. Domestic fights between two top challengers makes for good viewing Eubank would not have been such a big name if Benn, Watson and Collins weren’t around and visa versa. Every fight fan thrives on top domestic match ups sadly they are rare these days. They never seem to happen these days and if they do it’s usually when they are over the hill. The fact Hatton v Witter never happened seems such a shame to me. Governing bodies and promoters are as much to blame with so many different routes to championship glory of some sort.

As regards Eastman it was an opportunity to box for the British, Commonwealth and European - a rare opportunity. Scott is a devastating puncher and did put Eastman down briefly in the first, speaking with Scott he definitely caught Eastman, Eastman did touch down but unfortunately the bell went. It might have been the worst thing that could have happened in that fight; it definitely over excited Scott and probably woke up Howard. Eastman came out in the second a lot more wary and went on to show why he is world class. Maybe it was a bit early for Scott but it has definitely made him the fighter he is today. All our champions Ross Hale, Glenn Catley and Dean Francis got stopped earlier in their careers, its how you comeback from a defeat which can make you a more complete fighter. It certainly did with our champs.

Scott boxes Andy Halder on April 29th in Plymouth. His aim is to win the Lonsdale belt outright and then go on to try to box for the European. My father Chris has always tried to go the traditional title route with our fighters and we will continue to do so.

Keep an eye out for Lee Haskins, English Flyweight champ he is an exciting talent.

Jamie, How about a few words on the Leigh Allis v Valery Odin bout from last year? Where would it rate amongst all the promotions you've done?

One of the best for sure. Really was a rocky style fight with Odin and Aliss both having moments where they looked like they were going to stop eachother. They showed tremendous guts, great to see both boxers get a standing ovation at the end. Have not seen such a good fight like that in Bristol since Darren Dorrington. He loved a war.

Alliss makes his return on April 8th in Bristol. Noticed Odin has not boxed since does anybody know when he is sheduled to box. Mind you I doubt there are many Light Heavys that fancy boxing him, he's one tough fighter.

Thanks Jamie, as always your a gent, thanks for the reply, we did speak onthe phone a while a back for a peice at the BBN, always a pleasure mate
Good luck to Scott, whoi reckon could be our best kept secret at present along with Mike Hunter, two cracking fighters who deserve a lot more fom the tv companies than they are getting. Best of luck mate and keep plugging away, they have to listen if Scott keeps up his good form.

nice to see a lad from the west country doing well, got soft spot as i grew up in exeter! :TU:
