Who cares what people think of David Haye ?
He is the world heavyweight champion.
Many Brits have tried and failed.
Ask the likes of Brian London, Henry Cooper, Richard Dunn, Jack Bodell and Joe Bugner if they would have liked a portion of the world title and see what response you get.
At present their are no Muhammad Ali's, George Foreman's, Joe Frazier's or Larry Holmes.
We have only the Klitschko's who are the best of a bad bunch.
So come on get behind David not against him

I'm sure David will read your post and decide it's time to call it a day now as it's been a waste of time moving up from the Cruiser division.

Maybe he'll see the light.

Thanks.
Class response. After DH has read this maybe Dave you can talk him out of quitting now he has been so comprehensivley exposed

I've been posting on boxing boards since 1998ish - they have a greater propensity for throwing up these oddballs with obessions about a particular fighter (either negative or positive) than other subjects like football or IT. Very amusing.

Up untill the Valuev contest (you notice I won`t refer to it as a fight) I was a massive David Haye fan. Sadly since then I have changed my opinion a great deal :-?

Some of the things that made Haye such an attraction are now changed. He is now a low-output counter-puncher .. far from the exciting cruiserweight that first attracted me to him. He also seems to have adopted the pantomine baddie role to sell fights instead of the down to earth honest approach he had earlier on

I may not agree with a lot of Flints initial posts details .. but the Haye of old is alot removed from the Haye of today ... and that is a real shame. I think the old Haye style was alot better all round :-?

Damn, if Haye is nothing but shit at HW, then wtf does that mean the rest of the division is?

Valuev was a poor champion, but nobody can't tell me that either Klitchsko is a great champion?

Wladamir & Vitali are beating guys who don't even show up in shape to give themselves the best chance of even being competitive with the Klitschko's!

Look at the state Arreola was in against Vitali, it was terrible.

Vitali was so tentative against Kevin Johnson, who was fighting backwards the whole damn fight. If your opponent is so apprehensive why not assert yourself asap & get him out of there?

People talk about Haye's chin being a big weakness & perhaps it is, but are you telling me Wladamir is not chinny? If Haye lands clean on Wladamir he will hit the deck!

Vitali is a different matter, but I still say Haye can beat both guys! As fans, we should hope, pray & wish Haye does the business because it will, to a certain degree, bring a much needed boost to the HW division. If not, then that does not bode well for the division imo.

Haye has pretty much been a low output counter puncher since the Thompson fight. It's just that those counters were hard enough to either stop opponents or have them on the edge where he can then attack. I see it as an improvement he has made

FLINT ISLAND wrote:The rot has already set in for David Haye.

Below I list the reasons why.........................................

1.) He has not progressed since Crusierweight - just put on more weight - and if anything has stagnated as a fighter.

2.) Falling in love with his power - Hamed did it - now Haye is doing it - the rest of his game is being neglected

3.) Sucking up the "King David" hype the media and all the yes men glory hangers on are giving him - lets get this right
he beat a terrible champion in Valuev and is still only a paper champion.

4.) Poor stamnia and runs out of puff too easy

5.) Confidence crisis - usual super confident Haye has major doubts about himself at heavyweight - no pre fight nerves -
but the way he fights at heavyweight - he knows he is only one punch from maybe being knocked out -.

6.) Celebrity Champion - spending far too much time on things like the Jonathan Ross show and Bafata awards - still
probaly has his usual gym sessions but I bet he is not training with the same intensity.

7.) Money and comfort are now secured - it was the end of Hamed - and other fighters - it takes a real raw kind of fighter
like Bernard Hopkins to still stay hungry and moitvated despite being a millionaire several times over.

8.) Wants to get out by the time he is 31 - one eye on retirement is the wrong mentality - he should stick with boxing until
he has accomlisped his goals - whatever age that turns out to be.

9.) Shit chin - when Vitali lands its curtains.

10.) Inexperience - he simply does not know enough in a ring to beat the Klitscko brothers - is only hope is a one shot KO
But if it goes a few rounds - or even the full 12 rounds - I bet he is down heavily on all judges scorecards.

11.) Adam Booth - I give credit that Booth has great Chemistry with Haye - but does he really have the experience and
know how to take Haye to the next level as a World Heavyweight NO 1 - he needs freddie roach or something.

12.) Wife Natasha due to give birth to 2nd child soon - can make him more contented family man - and not want to put
it all on the line like before.

13.) Parties - Birds - Booze - all the tempation is there now for Haye as he is invited to every event on the Celeb circuit.
Lennox Lewis turned up fat for a few fights after all the glitzy parties and just managed to get away with it - Haye
is not so big or strong - and he will be blowing after 3 rounds and taken apart.

14.) Lack of size and stength - he simply isnt big and strong as some of these big lads.

15.) America - Golden Boy want him to fight out in Las Vegas, etc - how many British fighters have you seen come
unstuck out there ?

16.) Training camp - uprooted this fight camp from Cyprus cos he was helping with the promotion of selling the fight
in the UK - a sure sign the fighter is becoming more focused on the money / material aspect than improving as
a fighter.

vitali has spent his whole career jabbing off the back foot, he leans his top half of his body away from the opponent then sticks a 6ft9 inch jab in their face, very very unorthodox but very effective. in reality vitali is very very poorly schooled, but gets away with it due to physical atgtributes and power.

he doesn't throw loads of shots, nver has really. he can go ultra-quiet, as we saw with both abdoul and valuev. however, what he lacks in quantity, surely he makes up in speed/power? he landed significant shots in every round vs ruiz, dropping him 4x and marking huim up badly, probably retiring the bloke from the sport as well...

David Haye weather you like him or not has stirred up a division that has badly needed a shot in the arm for the best part of a decade now.

He's already won a HW title and has a decent chance against the Klits if is he is to meet them.

Slippery slope eh :o

A predictable knee jerk reaction to this thread - as the points I made are laughed off and I am accused of being a troll.

First of all its worth pointing out in previous threads / posts I have acknowledged Haye is:

World Class fighter
The Best Crusierweight in the World
Powerful Puncher
Exciting fighter.
etc.
etc.
etc.

However - this thread was focused on the pitfalls that Haye faces now he is at the stage of life / career he is at.

These pitfalls are real - and have slipped up many fighters before.

I believe a bit of rot has set in on Haye already - like not training with so much intensity / falling in love with his power, etc

Some of the points I have made - dont apply to Haye yet - but are potential pitfalls in the future.

He is now arrived at the pinnacle of the sport - world heavyweight champion status - and you cannot just tread water at this level.

Lennox Lewis never broke training camp as far as I am aware - every World title fight - he was up in the Mountains of Pennsylvania for weeks before a fight - he wanst doing that for money - he done it to be the best.

Haye broke training camp in Cyprus for this - by his own addmission to stay in the UK for weeks before the fight to hype the sales of the fight to increase his purse - while this may increase his bank balance - it gives credit to my point that he proabaly is not training with the same intensity as before when he was abroad away from all the hype and celebrity.

The problem is with excess success - like fame and money and adulation - as Haye has received since he won the WBA title - it can make you forget the fundamentals that got you there.
