The great scoring debate - Darren Barker v. Affif Belghecham

Post by slapbangwhallop »

Another week another questionable decision - aint boxing great.

So how did you see this one go??

Here is my card - I scored Darren Barker first and then Affif Belghecham

R1 10-9
R2 9-10
R3 10-9
R4 10-9
R5 10-9
R6 10-9
R7 9-10
R8 9-10
R9 9-10
R10 9-10
R11 9-10
R12 10-9

I had it a draw - 116-116.

The only two rounds that were debatable in my mind were rounds 2 and 12. In round two Belgacham pressured and landed with a variety of flurries but at this stage Barker was landing with heavy authoritive shots and but Belghcham nicked it.

Then half way through the 12th round Barker landed a strong three punch combo and made Belgacham miss with more than he had in previous round, the Frenchman pressured all the way and landed some heavy shots with 40 seconds to go and chased him to the end of the round but I think Barker was just ahead in that round.

I could have scored either the 2nd or 12th either way which still would have made it a draw in my book. What say ye??

I scored it to Barker. I thought he dominated the early parts of the fight, but then seemed to let Belghecham back into it for what ever reason. It was a close fight but i agree with the result. But what judge scored the fight 118 - 110??

How anyone could give the ninth to the French guy is beyond me. There was a big difference between the quality, hard shots that Barker landed through the middle of that round, compared to the punches the French guy landed near the end of the round when Barker got tired. But I suppose on TV you often don't get a true feel for the weight of the shots.
I thought Barker won by 4.

I gave it to the frenchman by one round , some rounds were close but if the fight was on neutral ground then i think the judges would have given it to affif belghecham too because of his effective pressure from round 6 onwards was much more impressive for me and barker was in serious trouble at times in there everyone has to admit

116-112 barker didn't look great, fought the complete wrong fight, trying to bully the frog, he should have just used his boxing skills from the off. im pretty sure we only seen 50% of barker last night

Barry, was you at the fight.... or did you even watch the fight for that matter? How can you POSSIBLY say that Barker was in serious trouble!! He wasn't hurt at any point, and even dominated the ninth round, and then was still on top in the last..... some of you on here need to open your eyes a bit and realise that theirs a modest British fighter that's just won the European title and has bundles of talent.....

Barker by 3 rounds, he dominated the first half and won some of the rounds later on when belghecham made a pretty impressive comeback.

in the 7th he was in as much if not more trouble than Lee was in in the last round of his fight. Although you will never admit it - but I'd say you have to feel a little embarrassed after all the shouting you did about Barker going to show Lee how to knockout Affif! :TU:

I had Barker by 2 rounds, 116-114 I think.

Not impressed by him at all, that flick of the hand that he calls a jab is awful looking. World Level? Definitely not on that showing.

Barker wasn't at his best, but he DID win the fight, and if you can't see that he didn't win the fight then you either have a hatred towards Barker or no nothing about boxing. Andy Lee boxed Belghecham over ten rounds and was hurt in the last; Barker boxed Belghecham over twelve rounds and was never hurt like Lee was. Now, this makes me question that if the Lee fight was twelve rounds maybe he would of been in real trouble over the last six minutes. Some of you on here need to realise that Barker is an up and coming modest BRITISH fighter who still has loads to offer.....

Barker won that clearly for me.. The other guy was technically poor!! Just crude, Barker was the one landing the better and the more accurate shots... I really do believe Darren done well last night and deserves respect for that win.. I just wanna see Macklin Vs Barker... :TU:
