the explosive "Thin Man'"carried awesome power in both hands, and was a very good boxer/counter puncher as well. His problems came against mobile quick boxers.Chavez was a straight ahead, wear you down, fairly hard puncher. Both men had solid chins, and excellent condition. Both men could go the distance, and thrived on the trench warfare.Again I am fans of both of these legends, and my heart is undecided, however my head, gives a slight edge to Arguello,as the height, reach, and definitely in power.I was disappointed seeing Chavez against trialhorse "Dwight Prachett" who went the 12 rd distance with Chavez, who could not seem to hurt Prachett,at all.I give the edge to Arguello
135 lbs.
I think Chavez would prevail at 135 against Arguello, because he seemed to gain punching power, and the quality of competition, was equal every bit,if not surpassing Arguello at lightweight.Chavez brutalized his opponents at 135,and I don't know if Arguello could take the non-stop pace/punishment that you KNOW Chavez would be dishing out.And other than on cuts,I don't know if Arguello could really hurt himI think the edge would be to Chavez at 135,

Top quality selection for a dream match-up; two guys who fought near enough in years to make a solid comparison. I pick Chavez at both weights because I don't think Alexis was durable enough to fight with Chavez. It is very important to remember that at 135 and, especially, at 130, Chavez was anything but a one dimensional, straight forward, hit the body til it breaks fighter. I saw his first fights in this country when he was 19 or 20, fighting guys like Adrian Arreola and his first title fight vs. "Azabache" Martinez. He was a very mobile fighter and his defensive skills were never given just due. He had an excellant jab, a right as straight as an arrow, that left hook, of course, and was most effective with uppercuts inside. He would have moved in and out against Arguello, never "away", worn him down and ko'd him in the 7-10 spot.
