Paul Morris vs Danny Hughes tonight.
My good friend and stable mate is giving away about 4inch and 5stone tonight against my former foe Danny 'Boy' Hughes on the Harrison vs Sprot undercard. Paul will weigh in at about the cruiserweight limit and it will be a real David and Goliath fight. It's meant to be shown on TV time permiting. Paul is a tough lad and has some good skills. It should be a cracking fight.

Danny Hughes is going to be too big for Paul tonight I am afraid - Paul did well to survive four rounds (and you say he won the fight but lost the descion) against another big lump in Ferguson but Hughes is a really good boxer and if Morris survives the distance that would be victory in itself.

Re: Paul Morris vs Danny Hughes tonight.
He is a good boxer no doubt but he's not got the biggest punch on him and his fitness has always been a problem for him. When I fought him I'd just come off a stoppage loss to Ferguson (the only time I've been properly hurt in a fight) I just stood of him too much and was too defensive. I have seen him pressured and he gasses easily. Dave Inglebly has fought him twice drawn once and lost a close points decision second time, Dave doesn't have anywhere near the work rate of Paul. I think fitness could win this for Paul, the fact its scheduled for 6x3s will go in his favour. Lets hope they show it on TV, Paul's last fight with Fergy was the only one that didn't get shown.Carlos-Wigan wrote:Eric - When Reg Gutteridge uttered the famous quip about Chris Eubank 'the ego has landed'ERIC GUY wrote:Well he can always buy the DVD from me

Good luck to him anyway - we are all Lancashire lads!demolitiondaley wrote:He is a good boxer no doubt but he's not got the biggest punch on him and his fitness has always been a problem for him. Don't think so mate and when he weighed in for his last fight he didn't strip off so I reckon he was probably 14st3lbs. Hughes has weighed in as heavy as 19st8lb, thats one big unit! I could have gone down with him but had family comittments so will have to settle for watching it on Sky. What time will it be over where you at 10pmGMT. Do you ever watch Friday Fight Night on the net?Carlos-Wigan wrote:Good luck to him anyway - we are all Lancashire lads!demolitiondaley wrote:He is a good boxer no doubt but he's not got the biggest punch on him and his fitness has always been a problem for him. 6AM mate - and as much as I would love to watch the fights - I won't be getting up to watch it at that time!demolitiondaley wrote:Don't think so mate and when he weighed in for his last fight he didn't strip off so I reckon he was probably 14st3lbs. Just spoke to him mate, he told me he weighed in at 14st3 and Hughes was off the scales 19st+. He reckons Hughes took the first 3 and he took the last 3. I knew doing the 6 rounds would work in Paul's favour.

Re: Paul Morris vs Danny Hughes tonight.
Hughes did take the first and then lost the last 3 on my card (which admittedly counts for piss all.)
Hughes' nose was bloodied by the end and he didn't look particularly athletic. I could pretty much feel the impact of Hughes's shots from 6 rows back but Morris took them and gave some back.

Re: Paul Morris vs Danny Hughes tonight.
why is morris not a cruiser if he is only 14st3, he is hardly having to boil himself down to make heavyweight.
i cant understand why he wants to fight a 19stone man when he does not have too, are there no opportunities for him in the cruiserweight division, he has fought at about 188 before !!!

They call him the Hurricane. He is a cruiser but struggles to get fights at the weight.

Re: Paul Morris vs Danny Hughes tonight.
Would it be better if Morris puts on 15 pounds and campaigns at heavyweight? This is the biggest result of the night in my opinion and it looks like Morris fast hands and style are better suited to the heavyweights.
Shannon Briggs said once that the power between cruiserweights and heavyweights are minimal except cruiserweights are fitter and are generally faster!

Re: Paul Morris vs Danny Hughes tonight.
He has thought about it, he's definately got the first reserve spot on the next prizefighter for the time being. The up and coming cruisers wont want to fight him on their home shows because he is to much of a dangerman. Maybe he will get offered some higher level opponents of the back of last night. Enzo Mac maybe?Carlos-Wigan wrote:Would it be better if Morris puts on 15 pounds and campaigns at heavyweight? Eric, Paul wants to buy last nights DVD and he was wondering if you were at his fight against Dave Ferguson? He's on Facebook if you want to add him.ERIC GUY wrote:Well he can always buy the DVD from me

Re: Paul Morris vs Danny Hughes tonight.
You know him better than me but personally I think if he puts 15lbs on (even if he does it sensibly) he will suddenly be out of his natural weight. Haye put 15lbs onto his weigh in day weight fairly easily because he was naturally bigger than 200lbs.
Personally I think cruiserweight is the way to go, he won't be facing too many 6ft5+ guys at cruiserweight. His workrate was really good considering he has only had a handful of fights.
My advice which aint worth a damn would be try and get his handlers and Hastings Rasani's handlers talking and sort out a 6 rounder for an appropriate show in 6 weeks time. I don't think Rasani says no too often.

He has fought at 15st+ in the ams, did weights back then. Said he felt just as fit but not quite as fast. He wants to campaign at cruiser and will hopefully get on some home shows soon. Rasani would be a good opponent for him.jameswilson wrote:You know him better than me but personally I think if he puts 15lbs on (even if he does it sensibly) he will suddenly be out of his natural weight. I saw him against Ferguson. Got a round of applause back to the dressing rooms for his heart and grit. He is one tough b*****d and most certainly a crowd pleaser. Would like to see him at cruiser. Looks like he has an iron chin too and if the fight with Ferguson had gone on a few more rounds he'd have beaten him.

Paul had some good news today, Ricky Hatton is going to be promoting him on his North-West shows from now on. He should get some good fights now and not have to fight any more giantsjameswilson wrote:You know him better than me but personally I think if he puts 15lbs on (even if he does it sensibly) he will suddenly be out of his natural weight.
