Who next for Audley.

Post by stujones »

The European Heavyweight scene is actually quite enjoyable to watch (in a kind of crazy way). I was looking at the boxrec rankings and Audley is still only ranked 19 in Europe.

So, if somehow he can get out of the Dimetrenko fight - who would be a very tough ask, who would you like to see him fight.

There are a large number of fairly decent European operators who were probably as deserving as Audley for a shot. So who you would like to see fight Audley.

Here's a link to the European ratings: http://boxrec.com/ratings.php?country=E ... &SUBMIT=Go

I'd like to see him fight Alexander Ustinov. They both have that surprised look during fights, either when they're throwing bombs or getting hit. Both big guys.

I think Bakhtov would be a good fight or Sexton if he beats Danny Williams (and thats no way guaranteed) I think a couple of solid wins in defence of his belt would secure him as a legitimate contender for one of the belts. There aren't many who 'earn' their shot so Audley has the credentials to match most of todays title contenders if he gets through this year unbeaten.

One fighter who I always used to champion quite a lot, but doesn't have much of a chin is Attila Levin. Looking at his record now. If he beat the guys who he has already beaten now (if that makes sense) he'd be in line for a world title. Just the likes of Ray Austin wasn't considered top ten material back then.

oleg maskaev would be a descent name on his record who is beatable nowadays for audley

but to be honest in that 25 man list i dont see many names that id fancy harrison against , maybe just 3 or 4 of them.

even down on the next page theres a lot who would probably beat audley , such as mormeck , koeber and bidenko

Audley should do whatever he has to do to get a 'world' title shot of some kind next. If one of the Klits will fight Big Albert, I don't see why one wouldn't accommodate him. Aud would probably even learn Deutsch to help sell the fight.

Barry Hearn will be keen to get a nice defence for Audley - I am thinking another domestic clash will be relatively high on the agenda.

Evander!

He's only keeping Audley's WBF belt warm.

I'd consider that a very interesting fight. Albeit a somewhat tawdry one.

Dimitrenko and his management are willing to fight Audley and considering he is the number one contender he will likely be next for Audley. Ideally Harrison should be making his first defense against a made to order opponent such as Denis Bakhtov, Dimitrenko will be a very difficult task for Audley to tackle and I think he will probably lose his title.

With him winning a vacant title he has to fight 2 mandatories so unless he gets a World title fight or vacates the title (which I think would be stupid unless he gets a World title fight) then he will be fighting Dimitrenko and then someone like Sexton, Bakhtov or Pianetta who are the guys in the upper echelons of the EBU ratings who would be interested in the European title.

Some might argue that he should give Sprott a rematch, given that SPrott was winning the fight and Ko's Audley before..

Provided that he keeps his European title and doesn't vacate he is at the mercy of the EBU, winning a Vacant title means he has to make 2 mandatories so they will decide his next 2 opponents. Unless he gets offered a World title fight I can't see him vacating his European title.

Fair point!

PS am I the only one who wants to see AUdley get an admittedly undeserved payday and shot at Haye / either K brother?

You know, just to hear him boasting before he gets brutally knocked out?

PPS also read this article which made a good point and takes a decent swipe at AUdley:

Audley clearly had a shoulder injury as he would not have neglected his power hand for most of the fight. Vitali Klitschko quit on his stool when he had a similar shoulder injury, but Audley gets no credit as it is fashionable and easy to join the long line of critics.

I thought Harrison did very well with the injury. There was obviously a problem.
