KHAN GONE TO THE PRO’S

It was on the cards since Amir Khans withdraw from the ABA’s. All reports suggest he has left the Amateur ranks by signing an agreement to turn professional with FW.

The deal with FW, which could see Khan earn £500,000 in his first year, was verbally agreed ten days ago, at the time Khan was withdrawn from his ABA Championships quarterfinal against Johnny Martin in Norfolk, saying that he had not been given enough tickets.

Since then the contracts have been with Khan’s lawyer, who approved them at the end of last week. The deal is unlikely to be announced until next month, though, when Khan will have his next and final amateur bout on April 16 at the Reebok Stadium, Bolton, which will be a fundraising event for his club, Bury ABC.

I think a lesson with Kindelan would a better fight to see before he goes pro.

Appears Calzaghe pulled out of a Woods fight too.

It's sad really, that a young guy like Khan can just get lured away to the pro ranks like that. He's only just become a star after the Olympics, and then suddenly, BOOM! FW is in there.

It would have been nice to see him win the ABAs. A fight with Harringey's Michael Grant would have been one for the purists, and great for the BBC, who I believe are showing the ABAs one way or another.

I look forward to another SN bill on Sky with all the usual faces against S/O or TBC and Amir Khan there with them.

Kindelan has offered his help to train youngsters for the ABA, how would this work?
Are we talking of him leaving Cuba? I`m sure he could earn alot more in the USA if this is the case.

At the end of the day Khans taking the offer to become finacially secur for the rest of his life. He could stay ameteur, fall off and not make any money.

If Khan boils down to 130 he can do very well. He'll knock over tomato cans for the first 2years but hopefully be put in with good enough fighters to improve.

I like Amir and while it lasted it was good. BUT!

Its a shame, Amateur boxing was on the up then bang droped to the bottom of the Shit heap.

If Amir had met Mario in the first round would we be looking at Khan in the same light as Courtny Fry and Andy Lee. Good boxers and 10 mins of fame but knowone knows who the hell they are.

Its the buisness of lies and all the rubbish that makes me mad. How does the rest of the UK squad feel about the way they treated Khan and themselves so different.

I would be outraged and probaly jealous but now I would think serve them right. They put all there eggs in one basket and they have all gone rotten!

On a positive its good to hear Liverpool will get 2008 Euro Championship,
so just over 2 and a half years to get a good all round squad that all deserve credit rather than one man!

He was finacially secure while being an amatuer too.

Amir Khan's final amateur bout will take place on April 16 after the Olympic silver medallist signed a contract with promoter FW to join British boxing's professional ranks.

The 18-year-old, signed a four-year deal with FW Sports Network and is expected to become a millionaire overnight once he turns professional.

However, Khan's camp said yesterday his amateur send off will take place at Bolton Wanderers' Reebok Stadium, and will be promoted by FW.

The proceeds from the night, expected to be a sell-out, will go to Bury Amateur Boxing Club, a parting gift from Khan and Warren to secure the future of the amateur boxing club which nurtured the young fighter.

Khan and his team got too big for their boots pulling out of the ABA's. Let's hope they come back down to earth now he's going pro or it might go down the pan. He is talented but nothing like the finished article, another 2 years at least as an amateur would have served him far better than a dozen absolute mismatches aloing the lines of Mitchell's career to date.

Yes they will all be bums for the first 20 fights, but on a serious note he is going up to Light Welter probally the hardest & most exciting division in the world.

There is Silly talk from his camp of him becoming British Champ in 12 months, World Champ in 2 years and retiring at 24!

does anyone know the date for the England v Cuban team match? Whoever wins the ABAS at 64, Cox or Grant, will still be good viewing, both these lads have talent in the amateur ranks and Frankie Gavin at 60kg is developing into quite a talent too.
