I followed the excellent Round by Round coverage put up on the Current scene forum. Seems like the right man won, bit of a shocker that one. I think most here went for a Green KO and although he came very close in the final round it just wasn't to be.
Seems like Green could be the new David Reid in that he is faded at a very young age. There were signs in his last performance. I don't think it is a case of him being overated because he smashed Eric Lucas to pieces and was well on course to doing the same to Beyer untill he lost the plot.
Beyer seems to be fighting with a renewed confidence since the Sarnavia fight rematch (which I said might happen). Still don't think he is the fighter who ripped the belt from Richie Woodhall in the 90's - but is a tricky person to beat (especially in Germany).
He has alot of options, a rubber match with Sarnavia (who was beating him in the rematch) or maybe a rematch with Lucas (who was robbed). Maybe the drama at the end of this fight might make a 3rd bout with Green feasable.
As a Sport Psychologist, I am absolutely fascinated why Beyer seems to crumble in the last round so often, he won the 11th by most accounts tonight and looked the fresher of the two. Similarly in the Cately and Woodhall fights he "looked" the fresher going into the last. I don't know what it is, but is sure is interesting. Tommy Morrison had a similar problem with the 5th round, excepted vs Lewis if Tommy could go beyond 5 he would win. However, he came a cropper in the 5th vs Mercer and nearly did vs Rudduck and a few other fighters.
Not sure what it is, I am going to do some research on it though.

I saw the Green fight on German TV. He's 31 - only been a pro 4 years. He could have won if he'd applied himself more. He'll wake up this morning and find it hard to look at himself in the mirror I suspect.
He jumped on Beyer at the start of the 12th and went for broke. I wonder if it was Green's actions rather than anything in Beyer's mind that meant Beyer nearly got done in the 12th.
Like you I think the psychological side of the sport is pretty interesting. A fighter must need incredible self-belief just to even get in the ring.
