Whilst it's always good to see boxing reported in the press, and the tone is positive towards a very good boxer, I have to say that some of the content in that article is rather off the mark:

"Sadly that was the first sign of the sport finally taking its toll on him as he simply ran out of gas to relinquish his European light-middleweight title."

That as an excellent fight, and full credit to both boxers- but it wasn't just a case of running out of gas.

Joe Gallaghers coloumn is more of an "opinion piece" as opposed to straight reporting.

Nice tribute.

The comparison to Gatti/Ward in regards to Jamie's trilogy with Michael Jones is far fetched though.

Moore moving onto the world stage is an item that we would have liked to see happen rather then something that should have happened.

A great warrior but he ranks well below guys like Michael Watson and Herol Graham when it comes to British fighters who never won a world title.

Agreed, only Jones Moore 3 would compare. The first fight was a "come from nowhere, late notice, surprise" in whic Jamie thoroughly outboxed JOnes for my money. Their second fight was "hang on, that wasnt a fluke I dont fancy this, best stay down" and their third fight was just that, a fight. A grudge match where boxing brains went out the window.

Moore Jones 3
Moore Macklin
Moore Rhodes

theres a trilogy thats better for my money than the gatti Ward trilogy.

Whicker,
I agree with you.
I have the utmost respect for Jamie Moore.
I am however getting very tired of this consistant line that the only reason Jamie lost to Rhodes was because he ran out of gas.
I know for a fact that Jamie himself would argue against that.
Two chilling punches for the two knock downs might have had a bearing.
I just find it very disappointing, that having witnessed the domestic fight of the year, the result had nothing to do with Rhodes performance.
Mr Gallagher - you ought to know better.

i think the rhodes fight was made a classic due to him getting an early mauling of shots that never had no power in them & weathering the storm & showing the guts he's got to throw back versus a wilted moore..but that's just my opinion 26 rhodes also looks extremely gaunt & god knows howlong he can manage 11st :!:

nowadays whenever someone retires or appears finished, ppl start with "credit to so and so", "what a great servant" etc. but jamie moore really deserves a good send off. shame the world title fight never worked out and ditto a big irish fight vs someone like lee or duddy.

anyone with a DVD burner should compile moore vs jones 3, macklin and rhodes. awesome fights and together they better the gatti-ward trilogy. that is some legacy, to have been in fights like that, and i hope ppl remember moore, like they remember the likes of past hardmen e.g. kaylor.

also, any books that come out on british boxing better have a chapter on moore, as he has been essential viewing whether it's been in controlled beatings of dave walker and gary logan, or all out wars like macklin and rhodes.

you have a way of putting things KG.

i'll say this though, without wanting to cause upset, being a big fan of moore.

if a fighter is being put in small hall classics half a decade after savage battles (jones 3, macklin), then it is a bit of a shame and perhaps no wonder that he would get beaten on this stage. it's a shame because he showed big potential in some fights (jones 1, piccirillo, etc). did the EBU put him off for too long? or did the fans take him for granted as a "domestic gladiator", was there room for only one big star in manchester (hatton), or wouldn't TV cough up enough money for bigger chances?

moore did seem to have the style and the personality to reach stardom beyond the british and european scenes. all the top brits this decade (apart from haye and calzaghe) got hurt, wobbled, or sliced up vs at least one domestic opponent (khan-limond/gomez, hatton-thaxton/magee, mitchell-johanesson, maccarinelli v hobson 1 etc). and if they were still fighting on that stage 4-5 years later, they could have been stopped on that stage.

ultimately though, it seems a credit to moore that he beat macklin at the point it represented a high risk for the least reward. while that brings in big respect from the message boarders, and made his career feel very exciting and "real" compared to the many OVERmanaged fighters, it perhaps doesn't give as much material reward.

it aint the fans fault moore never had any doors open for him & wasnt active enough,it is his managements job.

steve roberts was flying at one stage with sky backing & barry hearn couldnt open any doors.same as richard williams ..he had too fight the best & found martinez who's very good & been trying for donkeys himself :!:

If you are serious, then thats easily the worst post I've ever read in 12 years of daily message board reading.
