Matty Askin takes on Mathew Ellis on friday night over six, and for me (being from Blackpool) this is a really intriguing fight- not least because theyv'e been ripping shreds out of each other in the local paper for the last week or so. Ellis' form is now terrible obviously but back in the day he was a very good fighter, and it doesn't seem yesterday that a tiny Matty Askin made his amateur debut- with myself in the corner on a Mathew Ellis promoted show in Kirkham near Preston.
Anyway hopefully Sky show this undercard fight, as with local pride at stake, surely Ellis will give it one last shot.
Askin is a pretty good prospect so a good win here over a veteran former ABA champion would be an impressive skalp for only his sixth fight.

Why couldn't this fight be in Blackpool?
Two Blackpool based lads (I know Ellis is an Oldham native) fighting in either the tower lounge or the Winter Gardens would have been really good for the town, much better than that end of the pier legends crap.

Ellis barely tries these days so why is it such a good fight.

I agree. Should have been in Blackpool. Would have done big figures here.
