Wednesday night PPV's

Post by Marlin »

I honestly can't understand why they put these great cards on a Wednesday night and have them run until midnight. I have to get up early for work and was dead set falling asleep before the main event! Surely I am not the only one in that boat!?!

Are they really that worried about competing with footy on the weekends!?! I just can't see how there would be more interest/money made from having it midweek...

What do ya'll think?

Yea I hate Wednesday night fights myself too, especially one's from Perth with the time difference.

After Siaca's whingeing (although the last knockdown was behind the head on replay) and the way he sooked to let the fight end and before that too, I almost wish I stayed home and went to bed instead. Hate it when only one fighter turns up to fight.

What was with almost everyone doing pirouettes and falling on their arse when throwing hooks last night?

agree with thread, have always wondered that, ever since we had to endure the marathin card of green mundine. they didnt get out till ike 1030 that night either. and to top it off we had to pay the tittie girl to stay three extra hours!
but yea for a one off big event like that i dont see the reason for the night away from footy, surely it can compete. footy on every weekend.
i watched it at local leagues club, there was maybe 100 people watching. where as the weekend fights ive watched there usually pull 300- 500.

The fights were in Perth. If they lined them up with the east coast time the prelims would start before clerical workers went home.

It's not just cards from Perth though, Green has had cards in Sydney on Wednesdays that still run late...

Unfortunately boxing promoters cant compete in the weekend with the main stream sports ie NRL, Union etc during peak showing times on fox due to similar audience and demographics for boxing. So the alternative is Wednesday/Thursday. Especially for PPV events.

Small local club promos including your regular fox Friday night fights are fine on the weekend, but from a business point of view, promoters who risk a lot of money upfront on large scale events try to recoup and make a profit by grabbing as much of the broader market as possible in addition to the hardcore boxing purists.

Based on viewer stats for fox, main event and channel 10 HD, there are more viewers during the week days than weekends for main stream aussie boxing promotions. (excludes the Sunday US broadcasts and other significant world title fights)

Personal I don't mind paying or watching for a quality cards on mid weeks cause I don't have to start early...

Iv been saying this for years! they say its coz they dont want to compete with football codes but even when its not footy season they still have them late wednesday nights! Take green vs jones jr for example i cant see why that wasnt a perfect time to make it sunday arvo there was no football and it would of went to america on a saturday night primetime!

Mid week is fine but the running late business really comes down to the promoters programming head on the floor. Ear;y finishes are good- on time etc. but I fear it's only wishful thinking.....
