Ali & Free Weights.

Post by skelp »

Did Muhammed Ali use Free Weights (ie. Dumbells and Barbells) in his training. I am curious as to how he trained. He did not have a muscle bound physique akin to say Tyson or Holyfield, but; he did have strong looking arms.

Does anyone know what a typical training session for him involved. Also, what food stuff did he consume prior to, or after a training session?

Ali came from the era when HW's were natural and not manafactured by steroids, GH, whey shakes, creatine, and excess protein diets.

I know angelo dundee hated weight training and was critical when SRL did it before his second fight with Hearns.

I seriously doubt Ali did anything other than traditional ground work and strength excercises like chopping trees.

I'm fairly certain Ali's strength training did not involve weights of any kind, as Dundee was opposed to them. He did do lots of body weight excercises such as push-ups and pull-ups, and also exercises using medicine balls and chopping wood.

I know from personal experience that Bicep Curls are not good for boxers. This exercise tends to shorten the Biceps, not allowing the full extension of the arm.

Did Angelo or Ali ever publish the workout in book or video format?
