Got great respect for both of these chaps. Should be a cracker.

Right, cue the stream of 'Smigga haters'...

If the fight does happen as set out in the link above, does that means it's just for the British title? Or will Smigga vacate the British to fight for the European?

It's for the British mate. Not sure if they're looking for EBU sanctioning.

Interestingly, it states in the Board notice that it's a 50/50 split between the fighters - fair play :TU:

Smith is ranked at number 5 with the EBU so no problem there if they let him have a voluntary (and if Magee wants to put it up - perhaps he won't have to and it's insurance for him).

Would have to be a voluntary though as his mandatory is a chap called Kashtanov.

Smith beating Magee would not be an upset.

Ah, even if I wanted to I can't keep up with the rules. They all seem to just change them for what suits.

Magee isn't entitled to a voluntary defence yet as he won a Vacant title so the European won't be on the line. If he does lose however the European will become vacant, similar to the Matt Skelton vs Martin Rogan situation.

So the EBU wouldn't let him pay the mandatory to step aside?

Have been looking forward to this one, The fight has so many variables! Just hope it is in Liverpool so I can hit the press conferances and weigh-in's again. Wonder who Liverpool's Irish community will be supporting???

thats what i thought too .

smigga to get a late stoppage win , and then the euro will be vacant so smigga should in theory automatically get a shot at it against the madatory , assuming that paul wants that route.

Awright. I'll tell you what, stop being a grumpy looking bastard, even when you win, and I'll cheer you on. You always look like you won the lottery and lost the ticket. :TU: Big kudos for taking him on though, he is a tough mofo

My mother's name is Flaherty
No it is, but I don't think there's any Irish in our family for at least 5 generations

Look I'm delighted this fight has been called for, hopefully it all goes to plan and happens. I'd love it to be for the EBU also and I'd obviously love it to be in Liverpool with a sell out crowd and a great under-card.

I respect Brian Magee, I rate him as a fighter and he has always come across as a great fella.
It is a fight I think I can and will win, it will be tough and should be a cracker as someone stated above.

Fingers crossed!

Cheers,

Paul Smith.

Sure you have had the odd pint of Guiness? :D

This fight won't need any hyperbole to sell it...it is big enough by itself. Two top pro's and decent fella's! I think it is a true 50-50 but you can definately bully him!! Big night Paul, win this and you really are at the top table!!! :TU:

It's nice to see things coming together for smigga after a slow start to his career.
Magee wont be easy but with ten thousand scousers cheering him on at the echo (if thats were its being held) I reckon he can edge a hard fought points decision.

I'll smile when I'm happy.... I haven't been too happy with the performances and they were nowhere near my best.
If I was beaming from ear to ear I'd be disliked for being a smarmy bastard and being happy with below par performances.... Can't win. :DDD :DDD :DDD :DDD :DDD :DDD :DDD

Think Paul just has a 'game face' and will always look a bit of a grump, especially when you have the likes of Dodson playing the 'cheeky chappy' card!

When ever I have spoken to him he has always been perfectly pleasant, just focused on the job in hand!!!
