O/T Sky HD1 and HD TV in general.
I have recently gone from Virgin to Sky and I am delighted in every way. Last week I watched FFN in HD for the first time and it really makes a difference. I have to say HD programs are so much better to watch and as more and more channels are going HD, our HD ready TVs are now being used more for watching HD TV which is why we bought them plus they are lighter and take up less room than the old cathode ray TVs. The problem I found was that after watching HD, standard definition looks awful. When I bought my first 37" LCD TV I have to admit I was dissapointed because the picture quality was not as good as I had with my 32" Cathode ray tube set. I was later told these big LCD TVs do need HD if you want a really good picture. The trouble is we are still going to have to wait a while before all chanells transmit in HD. Nobody is transmitting in full HD at the moment but the picture quality is nevertheless very good. Toshiba have come up with an answer to switching back to standard definition with a TV that upscales standard definition so well that the difference is barely noticeable. I had a 37" 720P Toshiba TV which I have replaced with a 37" 1080P upscaling Toshiba TV and I am over the moon with it. Most of the programs in HD are not true HD anyway. They were made in Std Def but are they are being transmitted in HD. Thats why there is little difference between Std Def upscaled and HD programs. I am no expert in these matters I am just sharing with you my experiances having recently upgraded my main TV. Anyway I am looking forward to tonights boxing on Sky HD 1.

it seems that 3D t.v is going to be the next big thing, ill wait a few years and see how that pans out though as they are massively expensive at the moment.i love watching boxing in HD though, its excellent.

After my old digibox started to play up almost continuously I finally upgraded to SKY HD in March, and I couldn't be more pleased with it. My tv isn't the greatest spec but for boxing the HD picture is spot on. It's the motion detection for football matches that isn't so great but it's still a much clearer picture than before.
The installation guy was world class as well, 10 times better than the cowboys who turned up last time.

Very disappointed that it doesn't look as though Mayweather Mosley will be shown in HD over here. It was the same for Berto - Quintana, which wasn't even widescreen.

I can't stand having the screen with the two bars at the side, painful viewing. Although, I am happy to be able to see the fights but that can be annoying.chinny wrote:Very disappointed that it doesn't look as though Mayweather Mosley will be shown in HD over here. Damn that would be a shame. Surely the second biggest fight on the planet (arguably) should get the full treatment? The day of my installation I got to watch Pacquiao v Clottey in glorious HD later that night.
