Khan lines up Kindelan swansong

Warren homes in on Khan contract

Amir Khan could end his amateur career next month against the man who denied him Olympic gold.

Khan, 18, is hopeful of landing a rematch against Cuban Mario Kindelan in his last amateur fight on 16 April.

Kindelan has indicated he will be part of a Cuban team to meet a Four Nations line-up in Liverpool on 8 April.

And promotor allegedly hopes to persuade the Amateur Boxing Association to sanction Kindelan staying on to face Khan at the Reebok Stadium.

Warren said: "Amir wants to give something back to his team-mates and the aim is to raise as much money as possible for his club [Bury Amatuer Boxing Club].

"It will be Amir's swansong as an amateur and he has specifically asked to fight Kindelan again.

"There could be no better opponent and I am working hard to lobby the ABA to help make this great match happen."

sounds like hes starting early with the big promises for khan. ususally we have to wait till one of his guys is 30-0 against nobodies before the big promises come out only to be talked about for 2 years before disappearing in the distance

I read a similar story on the ITV teletext, I was wondering just how much pull allegedly can have on the ABA and to Amir's final opponent.

Why wait, Khan can sign a proffesional contract now and still fight on this date. Stop dragging it out, sign the forms.

No way is FW going to promote his new cash cow going in against a guy who's done him twice, just before he goes pro.

Twice? I thought they only fought once?

Losses in amateurs don't really mean anything, and nobody really expects him to win against Kindelan. If he does well against him, which he did last time, that's enough. It's hardly going to wreck his professional career to lost to a reigning olympic champion with about 12 years more experience.

No he lost to him in the final of a pre Olmpic prelims (or something like that it was called). He lost bigger than in the actual final.

They also fourght in a pre olympic tournament.

We know that. But the press don't. 'Khan beaten!' headlines won't do, I'm afraid. You know the deal "British boxing's next best thing was brought down to earth, etc" and by the end of the piece the man writing it is saying he isn't progressing and will end up a bum.
