I thought Zim did enough to win, but that's just from the angle I saw. His handspeed is really good and he really got his timing down well in that second round. He was just bouncing that straight right and left hook off the kid. Other dude was damn good too though, looked like he had some reach on Zim and that southpaw stances looked awkward to deal with. You going to have the rematch in DC?

Also, was that Tez in the corner? Who was the poor fool who fought him?

the catch weight was 85. Zimmie made weight, Damien didn't so it was a 90lbs bout. He was bigger but we knew that. Can't win boxing off the ropes though. Tough for all judges to see. Sometimes listening is the most important thing.

That's not Tez it was his dad and Mike Reed. Wait until you see his bout!! He boxed beautifully. It will be up this afternoon.

141. Yes, but he hasn't had a fight yet, so I guess technically not yet.

It is not too often that two 12-13 year old boxers are the main even on a show, but those two put on a great bout. I though Zimmie had a lead after the first two round, but Damien closed the gap in the 3rd round. It came down to a coin flip at the end as it was very close. I can see why it was a 3-2 split. Both boxers have some bright futures ahead of them if they keep training hard. Learn the fundamentals even better, go back to basics with balance, footwork, keeping the hands up and slipping punches. Both boxers are very quick, but I hope they keep working on getting better as their talent alone will win a lot of bouts. If they want to be the best, they need to improve on the little things that they will need someday to win at the highest levels. Don't wait and try to learn it 5 or 10 years down the road, learn it now.

I am sure I will be seeing these two in the National JO's in a couple of years and maybe representing the USA in the World Junior tournament and then other international tournaments as they get older.

It was a great environment for a show and we made a lot of great new friends in Colorado. I want to thank the Backyard Brawlers, Jeff & Louie Byrd and their team especially for opening up their gym to us. I wish we could have spent more time out there but hopefully we'll be back for the USA's in July. I assume that either Zimmie or Damien or both of them are only 12 since they only boxed 1 minute rounds. I wished they would have boxed longer rounds. Once they are both 13, they can go 1.5 minute rounds which would have been much better.

Zimmie turned 13 in February and I think Damien doesn't turn 13 until next month--so yes they were 1 minute rounds. Our open boxer did three two-minute rounds because they had 39 bouts on the show!!

Thanks you Dennis. Like I said it was a really great trip, his first time boxing in Colorado and we made some great new friends.

The only time I really don't like the shorter rounds is when it's done during advancing open tournaments. For example, all of our DC Golden Gloves open bouts were only 2 minutes not 3. I didn't go to our regionals, but I don't think that gets our boxers ready for nationals where they will def box 3-minute rounds. Also, now that open rounds are 3-minutes that is what we prepare for. Did the Michigan GG's box 3-minutes through all rounds of the local tournament?

Yes, the Michigan GG did have 3 minute rounds for the open boxers from day one until the state finals. However, if the National GG will follow the normal pattern, the first 4 days have 2 minute rounds. The semi-finals and finals are 3 minute rounds. Boxers have to be able to adjust and pick up the pace in the first few rounds and then have the proper conditioning for the 3 minute round bouts.
