Think you are wrong there Jeff
Thats what I heard. Brians name was thrown into the mix and they made the match for SEPTEMBER!!! However Webb has since decided that he would prefer someone less challenging for a voluntary first defence and has opted for Hammond or Concepcion... Prince Arrons name is also being mentioned. Could be wrong, as is always the case when dealing with rumours but thats what seems to be occuring.
Webb was one of the first people to try and get hold of Brian following the Rushton bout, having being through similar after his bout with Gilbert Eastman. Thats real class.

Also, think Steve Wood should be pushing Matvienko for fights at this level now!
Brian does have a bit of a dig on him so people shouldnt under estimate his power, the only time i have ever seen him vunerable EVER was when he was caught flush with a very hard punch against mano salari in which he fought back very well to get a draw, had tge fight been an 8 rounder he wouldve won the fight.
All due respect Alex is a nice lad very game and a trier but hes not in the same class as Brian ;)

Salari won that fight IMO and most others there. As for Matvienko I think Alex would grind him down and would be far too strong. Yes he has an excellent jab, but his fights just dont excite me at all.

Were all entitled to our opinion, Brian did have an off night that night, I thought a Draw was a fair result. His mind was on his holiday which was booked the day after, schoolboy error.
If Steve Wood thought Alex would have a better chance of winning a British Title he would be in the mix for it and not Brian.

Alex is/was in the mix for it. He's got a number 7 ranking I think now and is getting better. I want Rose to win this dont get me wrong, Id just like to see him a bit more explosive I suppose, and have at times been frustrated (but maybe that comes with experience). Be a good clash of styles should him and Alex match up down the line.

It would be a good boxer v brawler type match up, but I don't think you can underestimate Alex's toughness and chin. I also think he'd be too strong and get to Rose late. Lets hope we get to see them matched up at some point as the local Blackpool v Bolton matchup would be make it a great atmosphere!!
It should be a big year for both of them with a bit of luck!!
I sincerely doubt Steve Wood would have any interest in making that fight happen for obvious reasons. The only reason why that fight would happen is if one of them were a major title holder.

i have been told by a mutual mate of me and brian though been told not to spill
if one had been dominant you'd have thought the other wouldt want the fight. But both apprear up for it, so doesn't make sense. They both must have thought they had the measure of the other.
people keep talking about brian not having any power and thats why sam webb would beat him, well im 100% sure that sam webb has stopped the same amount of people than bri and has had more fights than him soo thats a silly post if u ask me.. i think bri will stop sam webb on cuts late on in the fight due to his world class accuracy..
Don't think you saw him break me,bit by bit.i boxed brian and let me tell you,he's a very well schooled boxer. He hurt me with every shot.and our fight was exciting.i have nothing but respect for him, that fight even though it took place at 1.30am,was a belter bout for spectators. DD

I think Rose beats Webb, he is underated and like others have said his power is too, sam is also a good fighter too obviously to be British champion and to beat Anthony Small who has got some great wins but i feel he will get stopped late on.
