Local paper (prone to inaccuracies or bum statements so take with caution) stated Ellis gave a tearful acceptance that it was time to retire. Hasn't fulfilled his amateur potential thats for sure but he's not alone there. I wonder what he would have done as a cruiserweight from the outset rather than chasing the bigger cash in the heavyweights. I think this early career decision showed where his priorities were.

Boxing is a proud mans sport. I hate thinking about my poor run of form, but Mathew doesn't seem to care anymore. He needs to sort himself out because right now he's going nowhere. And I don't mean just in a boxing ring.

I know you are his mate Jeff, but do you think the last sentence was called for? Especially in a public forum?

Certainly, only members of the forum read this... Boxing fans, the guy needs to get himself together. I've said it to his face and i'd say it on here. He's a fantastic coach and has tons of experience. He needs to give up looking for the fast cash and work hard for his sucesses outside of boxing, like the rest of us.

I don't like mocking people, especially boxers who put their health on the line whenever they step into the ring, but Ellis has become an embarrassment to himself and the sport. He must have little dignity left to put so little effort in. The promoters have a lot to answer for, WTF are they paying him for? It takes the piss out of everyone that pays to watch him.
