Anthony Small - The laughing stock of british boxing
Anthony Small - The laughing stock of british boxing
Have we seen the end of this mug?
He really is a genuine clown of the highest magnitude.

Re: Anthony Small - The laughing stock of british boxing
Small was a real overachiever and thinks he is much better than he actually is.
His style is very ugly and messy, and hard to watch on the eye. Yes he is awarkard, but most of the time I feel he dosen't know what he's going to do next. He had no strucure or fundalmentels to his style and it shows.
Most of the time, Small dosen't know what he wanted to be. Whether is be a pressue fighter, a boxer, or a KO artist. He wasn't really good at none.
I expect him to hang around the British scene for the next few years, but I always said he will never crack world level and I will stick by my statement.

Re: Anthony Small - The laughing stock of british boxing
What did make me chuckle was the post-fight write up in a certain magazine... and this is pretty much a complete quote... 'those who know me, know me. those who dont, know only what they see on TV' -- er, whose fault is that, Anthony?

I think the thread title is a bit harsh to be honest, he has beaten some decent guys. However, he is a tosser without the tools to back up his boasts.
Re: Anthony Small - The laughing stock of british boxing
I don't mind him.
But can see why other's would do.
He's offered some good moments, but mainly outside the ring. His press conference with Matthew Hall was great viewing.

Re: Anthony Small - The laughing stock of british boxing
don't like him. so i tend not to comment on anthony small threads. if you haven't got anything good to say about anyone...
recall an interview with haye in boxing news. those brief interviews they used to do on the back page. someone asked him who the best fighter in the world is, and he replied "anthony small"!
were they good pals or something, at one point?

I'm certainly no big fan of him and I think he believes he is a lot better than what he is, however I wouldn't call a former British and Commonwealth champion a laughing stock - however if people are laughing at him its msotly his own doing so he deserves it.
Re: Anthony Small - The laughing stock of british boxing
all he's guilty of is being a bit cocky
Re: Anthony Small - The laughing stock of british boxing

Re: Anthony Small - The laughing stock of british boxing
i think Jim Watt summed up nicely in his last fight, as he often does, Small just didn't seem to know what the hell he was doing in there.
A lot of boxing comes down to outright intelligence if you ask me, and having the smarts to implement a strategy that will defeat your opponent. You can have more talent/ physical attributes than a person, but if you ain't got the brains, the discipline or the coaching to use it, then it doesn't mean you can beat em does it?
the enigma with Small is that he produced the odd fantstic result, such as dismissing Hall (altho I have yet to catch up with that one on Youtube....) , did he also take out Conception, who can bang...plus he came up smelling of roses in the Contender on a night where other good domestic figters fell short, say Ross Minter for instance...
Maybe he was flattering to deceive all along. Now take Ryan Rhodes on the other hand who is clearly a very smart boxer possessing a wealth of experience, will and power.....sounds like carnage doesn't it.
I kinda like Small as a person, but I think his boxing, if you can call it that, kinda sucks.

He didn't do himself any favours with that nickname.

I actually think he is really talented. He needs to get rid of that Dave, and his stupid attitude. He puts himself into a real corner the way he goes on and i doubt he is as confident as he makes out.Yes,he boxed well against Hall, but he was made to measure and way to hyped up that night himself. When he won he thought he had just became the p4p king!He turned off the entire trade mouthing off, going way to far about really respected guys like Ryan Rhodes and the stupid srcjj thing. He thought he was the new Naz,when the reality was,he couldnt sell a ticket. For all his mouth,i bet he knew this at the bottom of his heart

Re: Anthony Small - The laughing stock of british boxing
Lacks basic fundamentals so when the going gets tough the punches get wider
Looked god awful against McDonogh. I wanted to cry watching that spectacle. Where is the consistent jab, where are the straight punches?
I think he lacks a boxing identity, probably watches other fighters and thinks 'I can do that'. His jab to the body is laughable. No doubt he saw Mayweather do it and thought that looks easy
Dont think he is a laughing stock though but you must perform better when you run your mouth like that
