This really sucks. We worked so hard for this and all of us were excited for this touranment since it was our first international competiton for most of us. Oppertunies like these are hard to come by. I guess the only hope for us if it gets canceled but I doubt it will happen. There's nothing we can do about it.

Re: u-19 cancelled
The other part that sucks is that some boxers were at large for US National because of not being available during locals. Now they have three days notice they have to box. Also some boxers already didn't enter Golden Gloves because they were supposed to be in training camp or Baku. This is bad on many different levels.Luis Feliciano wrote:This really sucks. Yeah, I missed my Golden Gloves as well since the Finals were this Saturday but I was stuck in Philly due to the cancelation of the Worlds.DCAmateurBoxing wrote:The other part that sucks is that some boxers were at large for US National because of not being available during locals. I just think everything went bad for us here. :(
Re: u-19 cancelled
shouldnt you be able to compete at large since you was technically fighting for your country
Re: u-19 cancelled
Luis - you need to contact USA Boxing and see about getting an At Large to the Championships, if you need that to compete.

Bad news for US boxing. Specially since the World Youths are the only qualifier for the Youth Olympics later this year. I guess there will be some more countries who won´t be able to get to Baku.

I was told that the US wasn't even invited to the World Youth Olympics anyhow. So, for the US Team they wouldn't have gone to Singapore anyhow.locoxelbox wrote:Bad news for US boxing. I don't think you can go At Large for the Golden Gloves Nationals. I think that's only at the USA's and I'll be good for that because our state tournament is next month.boxmel wrote:Luis - you need to contact USA Boxing and see about getting an At Large to the Championships, if you need that to compete.

Re: u-19 cancelled
it looks as though 90 of 104 countries are goin to baku but the u.s.a is not goin thats sad seems to me it was a quick decision the day they supposed to fly out it was not postponed just straight up cancelled usa boxing was probally running out of money mike martino or who ever makes these decision so hastily.
Re: u-19 cancelled
You really should research the facts before posting. The US team's participation was cancelled due to the fact the airlines could not get them there in time. USOC funds international competition, not USA Boxing.it looks as though 90 of 104 countries are goin to baku but the u.s.a is not goin thats sad seems to me it was a quick decision the day they supposed to fly out it was not postponed just straight up cancelled usa boxing was probally running out of money mike martino or who ever makes these decision so hastily.
Re: u-19 cancelled
USAB might be able to use the money allocated for this tourney for some other international competitions/camps now that the USA's participation is cancelled.
Re: u-19 cancelled
well it seems like all the other countries made it there thanks for the info about usoc funding international competition just my last 10 years seems like usa boxing always running out of money getting suspended by usoc for incompetance and fund mismanagement!

Re: u-19 cancelled
That's not what we were told. We were told that they didn't want to bring the boxers over and then have them get stuck in Baku. They cancelled this trip prematurely IMO. USAB notified boxers days before USAB posted it on their website, so it was quicker than most people think. They didn't even wait to see what other countries and the tournament officials had planned first IMO. As soon as the tourney was delayed, the US pulled out. If they made this decision a little later, I wouldn't be so skeptical, but I think they saw an opportunity to back out and did. Not sure of motives, but that's what it seems like happened.boxmel wrote:You really should research the facts before posting. I was also told (not officially) that the US Team wasn't even invited to participate in the World Youth Olympics boxing. Did anyone else get that info?
Re: u-19 cancelled
I sort of remember Pat Borkowski saying something like that when he was with USAB or it was just that the USOC didn't fund it but whatever, AIBA keeps changing their mind on how they do things and they have now decided that the world youth championships would be the only qualifier so if USA had boxers there and they qualified, they could have gone.DCAmateurBoxing wrote: I was also told (not officially) that the US Team wasn't even invited to participate in the World Youth Olympics boxing. On the cancellation of the trip, I agree that it sucks. I spoke with Martino and he said the airlines were saying to cancel the trip that they could not guarantee that the team could get there on time and if they did, this volcano could get worse and then yes, the team could be stuck there for awhile. Most of the boxers are still in school. So of course now that the decision has been made, things seem to be better with the airlines. I don't know what to say other then I feel really bad for the boxers.
