Adamek v Arreola
Adamek v Arreola
surprised ppl aren't discussing this fight, given that it could be exciting, as well as having one or two david haye angles.
like haye, adamek has come up from a run as cruiserweight champion of the world. unlike haye, adamek has landed a money fight vs a contender.
adamek - who won and lost a title at light heavy, and who has a couple of heavyweight wins under his belt - fights arreola on HBO's boxing after dark on saturday. so if he wins, he can get the TV dates, maybe bringing in enough money to fight haye, if haye can't get one of the K2 brothers.
haye did call adamek a "great fighter" who "can be knocking on the door, soon". in spite of the derision he gets online from the legions of hardcore adamek fans.

Re: Adamek v Arreola
today's weigh in:
adamek 217
arreola 250.5
arreola had promised to come in at 235 or 240
adamek was too heavy for estrada, a chunky and slow 225. 217 sounds better to execute a hit and move game plan.
reckon adamek wins this. he's a guy who can find a way and has set back some damn good (if smaller than arreola) fighters. he will be hugely motivated for this. he couldn't even get TV dates as cruiserweight champ and at light heavy he suffered from inactivity.

Adamek to win this for me,.
Re: Adamek v Arreola
Well if Atmosphere and selling tickets in the venue = ratings on TV (I aint saying it does) then Adamek will be a good attraction.
I thought Adamek looked brilliant against Golota, okay a shot Golota - but he looked like a great tonic to the Heavyweight devision. Against Estrada - I am less convinced I must say.

Re: Adamek v Arreola
adamek was awful vs estrada but he got 12 rounds in the bank vs a very ugly spoiler. i good learnign fight. good job few ppl saw the fight as it would have been a terrible showcase. i think adamek learned he was too chunky at 225-pounds - slow and tired looking.stujones wrote:Well if Atmosphere and selling tickets in the venue = ratings on TV (I aint saying it does) then Adamek will be a good attraction.

i believe his weight of 217 yesterday is the same for golota. while golota was bad, all boxers beat bad or faded fighters to learn. adamek definitely needed some practise taking bigger shots and hitting a bigger man. and for it to be a big money fight in poland, then good for him. he deserved it especially given the lack of TV money for his cruiserweight run.

Re: Adamek v Arreola
Neither can hit and move or fight going backwards, so this fight should be a war. To be honest, this is probably the next best heavyweight clash in the heavyweight division, outside the Klits and Haye. The sight of Arreola will forever make me gag, but I think his heavyweight size and strength - as well as his chin - should help him grind out the win. Then again, if the obese Arreola that turned up (didn't turn up) against Travis Walker shows, Adamek can and will hurt him. Should be a good one
Re: Adamek v Arreola
adamek on points easy

adamek moved pretty well vs an in shape (and big cruiser) jon banks, and vs andrew golota...Eraserhead wrote:Neither can hit and move or fight going backwards, so this fight should be a war. martinez did it last week vs a bigger man and i'm going for adamek to do it this week vs the bigger man.Adamj1987 wrote:adamek on points easy
not sure it will be easy, though. i think adamek will have some tough rounds, just as martinez did.

Re: Adamek v Arreola
yeah I am backing Adamek on points too, agree with what you say about his weight barn
Re: Adamek v Arreola
i felt adamek was awful at 225 vs estrada. i hated the weigh in pics before the fight, the tree trunk FOREarms(!) and the fat face. he probably felt bigger = better but it doesn't always work out in terms of peak fighting fitness. guys who enjoy their food before fights aren't usually impressive.
i'm not saying he's the new holyfield, but i think he has enough boxing ability to frustrate bigger men. and enough toughness to take the odd hard shot here and there. and the experience to know when to punch, when to hold, when to move.
reckon adamek really wants this, only his 2nd HBO appearance and one of his few big paydays. he needs to win 8 good rounds to get a decision.

Re: Adamek v Arreola
i think he'd give Haye an interesting night of it but i think i am in the minority there
Re: Adamek v Arreola
arreola will be fatter than ever, adamek will out speed him arreola will have to hope he lands late to KO adamekAutobarn wrote:martinez did it last week vs a bigger man and i'm going for adamek to do it this week vs the bigger man.Adamj1987 wrote:adamek on points easy

Agreed. Adamek has showed some good skill and movement recently.Autobarn wrote:adamek moved pretty well vs an in shape (and big cruiser) jon banks, and vs andrew golota...Eraserhead wrote:Neither can hit and move or fight going backwards, so this fight should be a war. Re: Adamek v Arreola
and while he was flat vs estrada, he did some neat moves, often punching, pivoting to the sides and punching at the new angles.
i agree CP. adamek v haye would be a good one. (would have prefered adamek's chances at 200 pounds, though. but they have more to fight for at heavyweight.) haye seems to think so as well, going by recent comments.

Re: Adamek v Arreola
Arreola actually looks in better shape than he usually does, think it's his second lowest weight since he has been pro, still nowhere near being in 'proper' shape mind. I think he stops Adamek around the 7th/8th in this one. Adamek has been troubled in the past by lesser known punchers at lower weights and he didn't look the best in his last outing. I think Arreola will wear Adamek down with heavy shots.

Re: Adamek v Arreola
Arreola will bully and stop Adamek who does not have the power to trouble any true heavyweight.
Re: Adamek v Arreola
if arreola comes in shape then i think hel be to strong for adamek
Re: Adamek v Arreola
Adamek to stop him late on for me, you can get odds of 9/2 (SportingBet and PaddyPower) if you're like minded
Re: Adamek v Arreola
i think adamek can use other means than power, in order to beat arreola.Carlos-Wigan wrote:Arreola will bully and stop Adamek who does not have the power to trouble any true heavyweight.
it will be a big test of his all round boxing ability, toughness and experience. but he probably knows enough to get by arreola.
arreola will start getting to him, perhaps in the mid stages. adamek will show his experience, using movement and smothering to get by these rough moments, pick his spots and grind out the hard win.
adamek perhaps can hurt him, with the fast accurate shots when arreola is tired, the kind of shots that big fat fighters don't see coming.
i'm glad arreola seems to have money and popularity disproportionate to his overall ability. because there will be good rewards for adamek when he wins.

Re: Adamek v Arreola
I think Arreola has took too much flak for his loss against Vitali - Vitali is getting faster and awkwarder as he is getting older and there aren't anyone (including Haye) who stand a chance against him now - So becuase Arreola took a hiding off the best heavyweight on the planet doesn't mean a pumped up light heavyweight is going to do the same.Autobarn wrote:i think adamek can use other means than power, in order to beat arreola.Carlos-Wigan wrote:Arreola will bully and stop Adamek who does not have the power to trouble any true heavyweight.

Adamek could not put away nor did he hurt Estrada - that should tell you all you need to know about the power Adamek has brought up from cruiserweight. This is a big step up for Adamek and you know - Arreola has enough skills and is fast enough to be landing his big shots on Adamek - I can't see the Pole taking those kind of shots for any longer than 8-10 rounds.
Re: Adamek v Arreola
Arreola by KO in this one I think, I doubt Adamek can keep him off him for the whole fight.
Re: Adamek v Arreola
i don't see adamek as a blown up light heavyweight. i feel he was too big for that division - if anything, underweight and drained and sluggish toward the end - and found his true weight at 200-pounds. so he's only a bit overweight. this time at 217 he'll be faster than he was vs estrada (220+) and firmer than he was v golota (214). adamek was considering doing 230 for arreola but has come to his senses - thankfully!
vs estrada, it was a poor performance because he was sluggish from carrying too much weight (overmuscled at 220+ pounds). also, estrada is hard to hit cleanly, as he is excellent defensively. arreola will be easier to hit. if the mexican-american tires (he's never been 12 rounds) and is frustrated, he could get hurt by some accurate shots by adamek. arreola hits much ahrder than estrada, but is much easier to hit. if he's knackered after 6 rounds, he could be a beached whale.
agreed it's a step up for adamek - a step up in weight. it's a step up for arreola as well - in class. he hasn't fought many fighters of this calibre.
also there is the intangible quality. this advantage would go to adamek. in an intense situation, he often finds a way to win. even if it looks really bad for him at some point, i believe he'll turn it around. arreola has talent - more than given credit for - but adamek has fought lots of accomplished pros (cunningham, dawson), physically intimidating guys (briggs, bell, banks) and a number of guys who had been excellent amateurs (golota, estrada, banks).
don't get me wrong, it's a serious test. but adamek wants that carrot (HBO money) and will eat it!
