Khan wants to spar with Hatton

AMIR KHAN is offering Ricky Hatton his services as a sparring partner.

The Olympic silver medallist wants to help the Manchester Hitman prepare for his fight with Kostya Tszyu, the world light-welterweight champion, at Manchester's MEN Arena on June 5.

"I would love to spar with him if I was asked. I've gone up to his weight now so it would help me and hopefully it might help him too," said 18-year-old Khan, who is a big Hatton fan.

"I think Ricky's got all it takes to beat Tszyu. My money's on him. I think this will be the best fight in 2005.

"Definitely, Hatton has a very good chance," said Khan, who insists his move into the professional ranks is not yet a done deal. "At the moment I'm still an amateur and I'm boxing on April 16 at Bolton's Reebok Stadium, when I hope my opponent will be Mario Kindelan, the Cuban who beat me in Athens.

"But you never know, it might not be my last amateur fight. It just depends.

"We've had a lot of offers, including some from America, and my family are just negotiating to find the best thing for me," said Amir, who refused to completely rule out staying amateur until next year's Commonwealth Games in Melbourne.

"There is a chance. I'm a little bit tempted but we'll take it one step at a time," added Khan.

Exactly. I was excited when he was coming second in the Olympics, but I'm tired of the lad now. Stop messing around and get on with it.

gets to me more when young kids think theyve done it all already to be honest.
dont like the way khan is shapin up i can see a big fall in the post. Not due to lack of talent but conceited arrogance.

superstars set the alarm bells ringing to be honest., was such a change from the fresh faced young kid enjoying the experience of being successful at the olympics to some arrogant chav, who seemed to think all he had to do was turn up to break all records.

LAST.
partly due to the fact thathalf way through the sqauts he started doing half squats and not clearing the necessary boards.

no one else's fault but his own.

to be fair it was men and boys, hopefully khan learned a lesson out there but it appears not.

i got the impression the rest of the competetitors were pretty non plussed with him as well. but he is just a kid, hopefully he will learn.

He's a cocky pudendum, and hasn't really done enough to back it up yet. As J said it was refresing in the olympics an innocent kid striking silver but he seems to be a right jumped up kid now who thinks he's done it all.

Fact is he's had a VERY short senior amateur career and granted the silver medal was some achievement but he hasnt even won an ABA title.

Oscar sparred with Chavez as an amatuer. A couple other notable names also. Good preparation. Maybe Khan will box his head off.

Khan doesn't strike me as cocky, but he isn't a clever boxer, and that will get him found out no doubt.

Top professionals have sparred with amatuers many times before, nothing new about that.

brodie offered a 16 year old Amir Khan £300 a round in preperation to the first Chi Fight (didnt accept the offer mind)

Pros like sparring amatuers for speed purposes, punches in bunches instead of planting your feet and throwing one heavy shot

Thats way over the odds, in preperation for the calzaghe fight robin reid paid £50 per round.

When over here Azumah Nelson sparred with amateurs, he even enjoyed going a few fast paced rounds with juniors.

I´ve seen many top amateurs beat up many top pros in the gym. But I don't think that would be the case in the Hatton-Khan sparring. Hatton probably would be too strong at this moment.

When Ali was an ameteur he ripped up some guy who was challenging for the HW crown (yes it was Ali but all the same)

Khan may be better sparing practise for Hatton than his current sparing partners. Khans also a smaller (he'd be 130 if he was pro) more mobile fighter - which means Ricky would need to work on footwork and handspeed to catch him.

If Hatton is sparring with people like Khan he is going to be KOd in no time. He needs to employ someone who can fight like Tszyu and has big power as well, No point sparring against speedsters when you are facing a big puncher with an unique style. Someone like Urkal or possibly some 147-154 pounders might be better.

Some urban myths mentioned here, £300 per round for a 16yr old amateur , top amateurs beating top pro`s.

What would Hatton gain by sparring with Khan? apart from a bit of publicity.
Khan is not a super elusive boxer, merely a boxer with the right style for the computer scoring system.
