Scott Quigg to fight in Bury

Post by maxicarter »

Hattons have announced they are staging a show at Bury Leisure Centre on May 29th with Scott Quigg top of the bill. Ricky says he reminds him of himself when he was younger (& thinner)

quigg looks class to me. underneath that video there is writing saying that quigg is lined up to fight for the european title later this year? surely thats wrong! i cant see him beating booth or munroe at this stage in his career, maybe in 5 more fights time he will, hopefully this fight will be for the english title.

If you havent noticed,Hatton seems quite good at getting undeserving fighters European title shots

European title doesn't seem a big deal these days.

It's the fighters who make fights, not the belt.

But yeah, I notice that article mentions Quigg's "European Title Shot" without even mentioning his opponent for Bury.

Maybe but I wouldn't call Quigg undeserving. Super-Bantamweight isn't the deepest division in Europe and Quigg has stopped two ranked fighters from the weight class above(Voronin and Lukin), Voronin was well inside the top 10 at Featherweight at the time too.
If he gets a decent-ish opponent for his next fight he wouldn't undeserving at all and would be more deserving than any of Munroe's title challengers bar Maludrottu and Martinez.

could be, but European title or, Commonwealth, could be just as likely.

Mainly because of promoters like Hennessy and Hatton matching their fighters with undeserving opponents. In countries such as Ireland, France, Italy etc. the EBU belt actually means something.

I agree Quigg looks good enough to box for it right now. But,given his current record,he has not earned it anyway.Hatton fighters seem to be avoiding the British and going straight for the European! For the record,i think Quigg is one of the best prospects in the country

It's the way things go, I suppose.

In the "ideal world" perhaps he would fight Booth or Munroe, but that just won't happen.

Because it doesn't "need" to. More belts that fighters etc...

In an ideal World Booth vs Munroe would of been made for British/Commonwealth/European titles but it didn't due to the fact they've the same promoter. Boxing will never fit into ideal World scenarios either, the path of least resistance will usually be observed unless the gains for taking another path are too great to turn down.
