I thought I didn't have to state on this forum the absolute bleedin' obvious regarding Golota! :witzend: But yes - Golota was/is a true heavyweight!

I hope to see Arreola in floods of tears again after this one.

I for one hope that Adamek can absorb and block the bigger man's shots, whilst finding room for his own.

I think Arreola will win by KO, but I can understand why some people might think Adamek outboxes him by a wide margin. I don't think Arreola is as limited as some people say. Yes, he is a brawler, but he puts his combinations together very well, isn't as slow as a lot of people think, is the bigger puncher, and despite his fat has shown no stamina problems.

I think Adamek will have a tough time effecting Arreola with his punches. Adamek is being labelled too much as a boxer, when he is more of a fighter. Yes he boxed well against a shot and slow Golota but that is not exactly something special. Against a faster fighter in Estrada he was getting hit clean and really didn't look like the slick boxer that he will need to be to avoid Arreola's hard punches. I also wonder what his chin is like. He hasn't been hit by a heavyweight with power, but he was hurt as both a lightheavyweight and cruiserweight.

I think Arreola will come forward, get outboxed for a while, but eventually he will get to Adamek in my opinion. I can see it going the other way, but an Arreola win is more likely for me.

Adamek = Jirov. Great fighter but too small to be a genuine 'player' in the heavyweight division. Should have stayed at cruiser.

the thing is, any analogy is flawed. i can see similarities (cruiser champ to heavy) between adamek and jirov, for sure. and fighting arreola is kind of like fighting mesi, in terms of opportunity and exposure (HBO).

i just think adamek is sharper and perhaps better able to make adjustments than jirov, a guy who was a bit sluggish even in his prime, a one punch at a time fighter in contrast to adamek's combos.

adamek has that extra bit of speed, going back to his light heavyweight days.

I'm not particularly drawing the comparison stylistically. Rather just convinced of the fact that like Jirov, Adamek won't be as effective at the higher weight. I can accept him not being able to make light-heavy, but please don't tell me he couldn't have stayed at cruiser. He's only come up to seek better paydays.

he couldn't stay at cruiser - TV moeny was running dry for the cruiserweights.

but of course, cruiser was his prime weight and it's an enormous shame that he didn't remain there for more great fights.

hopefully he can pick the right fights (he did specifically want arreola) and do something of worth at heavyweight.

reckon adamek is a bit more mobile than jirov, his hands a lot faster, and his game plans more solid. so he might be more effective in his big heavyweight chance on HBO.

i would have liked to see adamek defend his cruiser belt vs the comebacking jirov.

Should be a carcking fight, I see Arreola stopping Adamek mid-late in an absoulote war with both men having their moments.

i think adamek can take arreola's best shot.

at some point he'll have to.

the key will be, when he gets absolutely nailed, don't rally back. hold, clear the head, move - then get back to the boxing. (he did this v jon banks - big cruiser - and i think this was perhaps his best preparation to fight a top heavyweight.)

evander holyfield made this mistake so many times, notably in probably his biggest fight - the 1st with bowe. they were supposed to break, evander looked to the ref, bowe nailed him. from the 2nd round on evander fought bowe's fight, losing a great fight on bowe's terms, because he couldn't control his temper.

adamek is great, but not as absolutely diamond hard as holyfield. he'll be ok taking a big heavyweight shot. but he can't take combinations by arreola. he'll have to fight hard, but he'll need a cool head. all that experience will come in handy.

adamek to fight on his terms, frustrate/soften up arreola, survive some rough patches and force out some intense work in the late stages to geta decision. if adamek sticks to his plan, arreola - whose fights usually last 4 rounds - will be lost.

Haven't seen much of Adamek at heavy, but he's doing well to get the wins so far. Big gamble moving up to HW, it's where you can make the big bucks, but it's also where you can end up hurt in the long term. He definitely doesn't want to be taking too many shots against men the size of Arreola.
He should out box the big lump though. Polish TV must be showing this, does anyone know what channel on hotbird?

adamek apparently stuck to a solid gameplan, outboxing the bigger man. won a majority decision in arreola's hometown.

props to adamek, one of my fave fighters in boxing. this guy has world class wins at 3 weights now. when adamek lost his light heavyweight title to dawson years ago, it looked like he had blown the big money. his cruiserweight fights - hard elims, genuine world title fights - struggled to get TV exposure/TV money. now he's outclassed an HBO fave, in arreola.

quality fighter, and i said after the golota fight that he could do things at heavyweight.

Adamek outclassed Arreola, I was very impressed and surprised. He is definitely a legitimate HW contender, I can't doubt him anymore. He was also looking very solid tonight. In his first fight at HW, against Golota, he weighed in at 214 and looked a little soft, not like a natural HW. Tonight he was 217 and looking in excellent shape.

i think he's done it the right way, building up vs heavy madman (golota), tricky light hitting amateur star (estrada) and power punching HBO fighter (arreola).

seems like adamek rises to the challenge, and sensibly does things bit by bit.

adamek should be an example to guys like froch. adamek was getting nailed badly in his early world title bouts at light heavy. yet he changed his style to outclass big punchers at both cruiserweight (o'neil bell) and heavyweight (arreola). froch maybe needs to change.

i'm glad adamek got 2 good heavyweight paydays, golota ("polish fight of the century") and arreola (major TV date). i mean, not long ago he had to defend his cruiserweight title v bobby gunn on internet PPV, due to lack of money from TV. that won't be a problem now!

i wonder what haye makes of this result.

in the last few weeks he's said "arreola is a disgrace" and that "adamek is a great fighter who could be knocking on the door (for a title fight) soon."

Adamek was robbed of a unanimous decision, those judges should never be allowed to referee another fight in their lifetime, and the one who scored it a draw should be shot!

At an absolute push, i might just give Arreola 2 rounds. Adamek out punched him, outlanded him, out-manouvered him and out-thought him for the entire fight, it was a real shame to see those scores being called out. To be fair though, Arreola was in the fight, he was applying pressure and trying to keep it close, but he was not winning any rounds. Like i said, i'll be fair and give him 2 of them, any more and i'd be a crook.

most ppl are saying adamek won clearly. but something is really getting up my nose. the AP report is being widely circulated and saying they had it 114-114. the writer emphasised that it looked like arreola would stop adamek, but arreola simply hurt his hands, and adamek then started winning. the man - who clearly cannot be bothered - then suggested adamek could have a rematch in newark! fight should have been newark NJ in the first place, as adamek ia abig draw there. and why would adamek fight a rematch, when - in evryone else's eyes - he controlled the big guy? you read some real garbage, sometimes.
